About The Role
We are collaborating with a rapidly expanding UK-based software company operating within the insurance sector to recruit an Azure SQL DBA / Data Platform Engineer for a new, pivotal role. This position offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of the company's data platform strategy, focusing on modernizing and consolidating client reporting solutions into Azure-based, repeatable processes. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines, ensuring the health and performance of the Azure SQL estate, and working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data solutions. This is a strategic, hands-on position that requires a proactive individual capable of defining the roadmap for the company's data platform evolution, with scope for future team leadership and growth.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in SQL Server and Azure SQL administration, with proven experience in managing and optimizing large-scale data environments. Hands-on expertise with ETL tools, particularly Azure Data Factory or Microsoft Fabric, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in T-SQL, performance tuning, and query optimization. Experience with cloud-based data solutions, including Azure Synapse, Data Lake, or Power BI, is advantageous but not mandatory. A self-starter attitude, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to work independently are crucial. Relevant certifications in Azure or SQL Server, along with experience in data governance, master data management, and CI/CD practices for databases, will be highly regarded.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
