About UBDS
UBDS Group helps organisations deliver meaningful digital transformations through modern technology solutions. We work with clients across the public and private sector to design and build products, platforms and services that genuinely make a difference to users.
We’re looking for a Data Engineer who enjoys working with data, technology and users to solve real problems. Someone who is comfortable working in delivery teams, curious about how things work, and keen to build reliable, well-designed data solutions that get used.
The Role
As a Data Engineer at UBDS, you’ll work as part of multidisciplinary teams alongside clients, designers, analysts and engineers to deliver modern data solutions. You’ll contribute to the design and build of data pipelines, models and analytics products, learning from experienced colleagues and applying best practices along the way.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll develop your technical skills, collaborate closely with others, and gain experience delivering solutions that operate in real-world environments.
What You’ll Do
- Help translate business problems into data, analytical and technical tasks with support from senior colleagues.
- Design, build and maintain data pipelines, models and products using SQL, Python and modern data engineering tools.
- Work with data warehouses, lakehouse platforms and event-driven patterns, including building semantic models for analytics and visualisation.
- Contribute to solutions built on cloud data and AI platforms (AWS/Azure), following good software engineering, testing and CI/CD practices.
- Apply analytics, experimentation, AI/ML integration, governance, security and data quality practices as part of delivery teams.
- Create clear data visualisations and explanations that help users understand and act on insights.
- Work closely with users and stakeholders in Agile, client-driven environments, learning from live services and user feedback.
- Follow relevant industry and government standards and contribute to solutions that are well documented, maintainable and easy to hand over.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
