About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our client's Enterprise Data team. This is a senior, hands-on position designed for an individual with a strong technical background who also possesses leadership qualities to guide and mentor other engineers. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data solutions within an Azure-based environment, centered around Databricks. As a key technical contributor and leader, you will be responsible for delivering complex data engineering projects, ensuring high-quality standards, and shaping the technical direction of the data function. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on innovative data platforms, contribute to strategic initiatives, and influence the future of data architecture within the organization.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have at least five to seven years of experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of working with cloud-based data platforms, particularly Azure. Strong and current experience with Azure Databricks is essential, along with advanced skills in Python, PySpark, and SQL. Candidates should possess a deep understanding of Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and data modeling principles. Experience with Azure Data Factory and Azure Data Lake Storage is required, as well as familiarity with infrastructure as code and Azure resource management. A solid grasp of software engineering principles, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines is also necessary. Leadership experience, especially in mentoring or reviewing the work of other data engineers, is highly valued. The role requires a candidate with a passion for architecture and a desire to assume broader technical responsibilities, while remaining highly hands-on in their approach.

Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, reliable data solutions leveraging Azure and Databricks technologies.
- Build and optimize batch and streaming data pipelines from various sources such as databases, APIs, and Kafka.
- Create trusted datasets to support reporting, analytics, data science, and AI initiatives.
- Utilize Python, PySpark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and SQL to implement data solutions.
- Review code, technical designs, Terraform configurations, and testing processes to ensure quality and standards compliance.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Data Engineers, supporting complex problem-solving and decision-making.
- Contribute to the architecture and strategic technical direction of the data platform and broader data function.
- Enhance CI/CD processes, automate testing, and improve platform monitoring and reliability.
- Ensure all engineering work adheres to governance and quality standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives for data infrastructure, security, and performance.
