Job Title
Cambridge Tech Recruitment is looking for experienced Data Engineers who combine strong delivery skills with an understanding of cloud architecture.
This is a hands-on engineering opportunity with scope to influence how the data platform is designed, integrated and operated. You’ll build reliable pipelines while helping shape an Azure environment that is secure, scalable and straightforward to maintain.
The project is kicking off at the start of November. SDS is in progress, but likely outside IR-35 - please send both inside and outside rates. Mostly remote, with some travel to the Cambridgeshire area. Initial term: 6 months.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing, building and maintaining data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, SQL and Python.
- Developing ingestion and transformation processes across operational systems, APIs and other data sources.
- Contributing to architecture decisions around storage, processing, integration and data modelling.
- Working with Azure Data Lake Storage and platforms such as Databricks, Synapse or Microsoft Fabric.
- Applying appropriate access controls, managed identities and secrets management.
- Building monitoring, data-quality checks and recovery processes into pipelines.
- Improving performance and managing cloud costs through practical engineering decisions.
- Supporting repeatable deployments through infrastructure as code, version control and CI/CD.
- Working with architects, analysts and business stakeholders to turn requirements into working solutions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
