Data Engineering Consultant – Contract | Data Platform Build | Snowflake | dbt | PostgreSQL
We’re looking for an experienced Data Engineering Consultant to take ownership of designing and building a new centralised data platform for a growing, data-led business.
This isn’t a BAU data engineering role. You’ll be coming in to design, build and productionise the foundations of the company’s data estate, bringing together multiple operational and marketing data sources into Snowflake and creating a reliable single source of truth across the business.
The longer-term ambition is bigger than reporting. This platform will become the foundation for future analytics, automation and AI initiatives.
The challenge
Today, business-critical data sits across multiple systems, including application and customer funnel data, PostgreSQL-based contact and dialler data, and marketing platforms. We are looking to bring in someone who can bring that together properly.
Working closely with the Head of Data, you’ll have significant ownership over the technical approach, from architecture and ingestion through to modelling, monitoring, deployment and documentation. You’ll be expected to challenge assumptions, recommend the right approach and then get hands-on and build it.

Day-to-day responsibilities
- Design the end-to-end architecture covering source → ingestion → Snowflake → transformation → analytics, including the raw, staging and analytical layers.
- Build reliable, incremental data pipelines into Snowflake from sources including: PostgreSQL, Application / event-based data, Google, Facebook, Affiliate and wider marketing sources.
- Make those pipelines genuinely production-ready, handling schema changes, historical backfills, updates, deletes, failures, retries, reconciliation and recovery.
- Establish the Snowflake environment and engineering standards, including schemas, roles, permissions, warehouses, resource management and naming conventions.
- Build the dbt framework from the ground up, creating source definitions, staging models, core analytical models, tests, documentation, reusable components and Git-based deployment workflows.
- Put proper data quality and observability around the platform. We want to know when data is missing, late, duplicated or incorrect, rather than discovering a broken pipeline through an inaccurate business report.
What we're looking for:
We are looking for an experienced Data Consultant who has done this before and can hit the ground running.
- Experience walking into a fragmented data environment and designing and delivering a modern cloud data platform from the ground up.
- Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake and dbt, alongside building production-grade data pipelines and working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
- Understanding of modern data architecture and modelling, but you'll be equally comfortable getting into the detail of ingestion, transformations, incremental loads, CI/CD, monitoring, logging and recovery.
- Experience working with event-driven or API-based ingestion would be particularly valuable, as would integrating marketing platforms and other third-party data sources.
- Most importantly, we're looking for someone who thinks beyond simply "getting the data into Snowflake." You’ll care about reliability, scalability, data quality, security, maintainability and making sure the internal team can confidently own what you've built once the engagement finishes.
