About the Role:
As a Data Engineer at Guide Dogs, you’ll deliver resilient, scalable and future proof data solutions and designs, facilitating accurate and optimised ETL processes that maintain data integrity within Guide Dogs’ core business applications. The Data Engineer will be an expert in ETL processes, data integration, and SQL-based analysis, with the ability to manage complex data services, resolve data-related issues, and drive continuous improvements in data quality and automation. You'll combine strong technical expertise with a proactive approach to ensuring data reliability, compliance, and operational excellence. Our Data Engineer's play a huge part in ensuring everything we do enables us to deliver on our purpose and exceed expectations.
This is a hybrid role, combining both remote and office-based working. The successful candidate will be required to work from and have the ability to access our Leamington Spa, London, and Reading offices as business needs require. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, support and enhance existing Extract Transform Load (ETL) pipelines for external data feeds into the platform, ensuring reliability, resilience, monitoring, appropriate documentation and supporting infrastructure, ensuring solutions align with business requirements, architectural standards and operational supportability.
- Provide operational support for business-critical data services, including incident investigation, root cause analysis, feed reconciliation, defect resolution, service requests and proactive management of data quality, pipeline and performance issues.
- Lead structured data investigations using SQL and other analytical tools to identify anomalies, assess impacts and support operational continuity, compliance and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with fundraising, volunteering, operations, digital and finance teams to optimise data processes, improve data usability and ensure operational changes reflect underlying data dependencies and business needs.

You:
You'll have a structured and analytical approach to managing complex data environments, integrations, and ETL processes. You'll enjoy working in fast-paced, evolving environments, with a dedicated focus on data quality, operational support, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement, whilst being committed to delivering reliable, compliant, and business-critical data services. You'll act with integrity and honesty in everything you do.
Skills and Competencies:
- Data science or engineering certification (recognised vendor) (or equivalent experience)
- Creation and implementation of technical documentation relating to data, storage, access, acquisition and usage.
- Knowledge of various methods, practices and technologies relating to data integrity, quality and usage.
- Aware of the types of problems in databases, data processes, data products and services and how to resolve.
- Strong Structured Query Language (SQL) skills and ability to identify opportunities to improve and streamline existing processes
