About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer for a 6-month contract role within our Energy Markets division. This position is based in Reading with a hybrid working model and is classified as Inside IR35. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust data pipelines and models that support data science and trading activities. The role requires a strong focus on Python development within Databricks and Streamlit platforms to deliver operational tools and enhance process efficiencies. The Senior Data Engineer will collaborate closely with Data Management teams, IT departments, and business stakeholders to ensure seamless integration, security, and governance of data solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for a data professional looking to leverage cutting-edge technologies and contribute to impactful projects in a dynamic environment.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in data engineering, including data preparation, transformation, and processing across various formats and structures.
- Extensive programming skills in Python, PySpark, and SQL.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks, Azure cloud platform, Azure Data Factory (ADF), and Streamlit or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, ELT design patterns, data governance, and security best practices.
- Knowledge of data streaming concepts and experience designing or analyzing streaming data pipelines (preferred but not essential).
- Proficiency in cloud-based Microsoft Azure Data and Analytics services, along with Microsoft DevOps and Agile methodologies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, curiosity, and adaptability to operate across multiple data domains.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional projects and promote data quality practices.
- Relevant certifications or experience in data security, governance, or related fields are advantageous.

Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and operationalize integrated, scalable, and reusable data pipelines and tools to support analytics and trading activities.
- Collaborate with Data Management teams to ensure data governance, security, and compliance standards are met.
- Optimize data processes for performance, efficiency, and robustness, continuously measuring and improving data provision quality.
- Work closely with business stakeholders, Data Scientists, and IT teams to deliver high-quality analytics solutions that generate tangible business value.
- Design and implement operational tools using Python within Databricks and Streamlit platforms to streamline processes and improve operational efficiencies.
- Align data solutions with the long-term strategy of the analytics platform, ensuring scalability and sustainability.
- Explore and adopt emerging technologies and tools to enhance data capabilities and operational models.
- Promote a data-driven culture by increasing awareness and understanding of analytics across the organization.
- Lead and participate in cross-functional projects, ensuring effective communication and stakeholder engagement throughout project lifecycles.
