I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

At Williams, bespoke software tools quietly power performance across the car, delivering impact you can feel, not always see. The Engineering Team enables these tools, by creating Data Products used across Williams and collaborating with teams to support key areas like Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, and Vehicle Performance. Together, they turn data into decisions and innovation into speed.

On this 12-month placement you join the Data Engineering team and work alongside the Software Engineering teams to build and maintain the data pipelines behind the wider Data Platforms at Williams. You apply what you have learned at university in a live engineering environment, developing practical skills in data engineering, cloud platforms and software development. Your work feeds directly into day-to-day delivery and decisions across the team.

  • Build and test data pipeline components and ETL processes (moving and reshaping data) under guidance
  • Write and maintain Python and SQL scripts for data ingestion, transformation and validation
  • Investigate straightforward data quality issues and document pipelines and processes clearly
  • Take part in code reviews and testing, building software engineering good practice
  • Work with the team to understand how data supports race weekend decisions, showing teamwork
