Data Engineer

Cardiff - Hybrid (1 day per week in office)

Role Overview

The organisation's various systems hold data that together support business delivery and growth. It's looking for an experienced, enthusiastic data specialist who can bring these systems together and present data suited to the needs of a workforce of around 300 staff and a diverse customer base - someone passionate about making data work for people through relevant insights and the adoption of technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and support dashboards for business use, working with partners and internal subject-matter experts
  • Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines to collect, transform and store data from various sources
  • Manage and optimise databases, data warehouse and data lake environments for data quality, integrity and accessibility
  • Work with suppliers, partners and stakeholders to understand data needs and provide tailored solutions
  • Implement data security measures and ensure compliance with privacy regulations
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data solutions, resolving issues as they arise
  • Maintain clear documentation of data processes, architectures and workflows
  • Support live systems on an ongoing basis where data expertise is required

Experience

  • Around 3 years' hands-on experience in data analysis, automation and development
  • Experience developing dashboards to end-user requirements, ideally using Power BI
  • Experience supporting legacy databases and scripts to move and visualise data across systems
  • Experience designing, delivering and supporting system integrations and data pipelines
  • Experience with data lake and data warehouse approaches

Requirements

  • Proficiency with SQL and relational database systems
  • Experience with data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Experience with data pipeline/ETL tools and cloud data platforms (e.g. Azure, Databricks, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with automation tools (e.g. Power Automate or similar)
  • Working knowledge of scripting for data tasks (e.g. PowerShell or similar)
