About The Role

We are seeking experienced Data Engineers to join our dynamic team at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, testing, and supporting data collection, integration, and ETL applications that enable key stakeholders to access and utilize critical data effectively. Your work will involve modeling data requirements, sources, and flows to bring structure and order to complex programs, ensuring data lifecycle management aligns with organizational policies and security standards. You will leverage a variety of data engineering tools and platforms, including open-source technologies, to build scalable, efficient, and secure data solutions. This position offers hybrid working arrangements in London or Manchester, with flexibility for full or part-time engagement, tailored to individual needs and preferences.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data engineering, analysis, or science, with hands-on experience in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala. Demonstrable expertise in ETL tools and big data applications is essential, along with a solid understanding of open-source data engineering platforms. Candidates should have a good grasp of database concepts, including unstructured data, NoSQL, and big data technologies, as well as data modeling techniques. Prior experience working within cybersecurity or intelligence domains is advantageous but not mandatory. A proactive attitude towards learning new technologies and adapting to evolving project requirements is highly valued. Additionally, candidates must be eligible for security clearance, with an active eDV clearance being a prerequisite for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support data collection, integration, and ETL applications to facilitate efficient data access for stakeholders.
  • Model data requirements, sources, and flows, ensuring a structured approach to complex data programs.
  • Define data creation, mastery, and destruction processes to maintain control over data lifecycle management.
  • Select and implement appropriate data products and tools for data collection, storage, visualization, and governance.
  • Establish metadata standards to enhance searchability and governance, including records management for unstructured data.
  • Evaluate open-source and commercial data engineering platforms, providing recommendations based on customer needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, innovative data solutions aligned with organizational goals.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and data governance standards throughout all stages of data handling.
