About The Role
We are seeking experienced Data Engineers to join BAE Systems Digital Intelligence as part of our expanding team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, testing, and supporting data collection, integration, and ETL applications. Your work will facilitate the availability of vital data to key stakeholders and technical interfaces, enabling informed decision-making and operational efficiency. You will model data requirements, sources, and flows to bring structure to complex programs, ensuring the proper lifecycle management of corporate data assets. The role offers hybrid working arrangements, with locations in London or Manchester, and is suitable for both full-time and part-time applicants. This position provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to national security initiatives while working within a dynamic and innovative environment.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data engineering, analysis, or science, with proficiency in programming languages such as Python and experience with Big Data tools. Demonstrable experience in using ETL tools and open-source data engineering platforms is essential, along with the ability to evaluate and recommend appropriate solutions for various client problems. A solid understanding of database concepts, including unstructured, NoSQL, and big data platforms, is required. Familiarity with data modeling techniques and data governance principles will be advantageous. Previous experience working in cyber security or intelligence domains is desirable but not mandatory. Candidates must also meet security clearance requirements, including holding an active eDV clearance before application.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain data collection, integration, and ETL applications to ensure data availability and integrity.
- Model data requirements, sources, and flows to bring clarity and structure to complex data programs.
- Define data creation, management, and destruction processes to maintain control over data lifecycle.
- Utilize a range of data products and tools to collect, store, visualize, and govern data and metadata effectively.
- Develop and define metadata schemas to enhance searchability and governance, including records management for unstructured data.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement scalable data solutions aligned with organizational standards and security protocols.
- Evaluate emerging open-source and commercial data engineering tools, providing recommendations based on client needs and technical feasibility.
- Ensure compliance with data security policies and support data governance initiatives across projects.
