Lead Data Engineer - AWS - AI & Machine Learning - Fully Remote (UK) - Up to £110,000
Are you a Senior Data Engineer ready to take ownership of an entire data platform rather than simply contributing to one?
We're partnering with a rapidly growing technology business that develops innovative data-driven products for global enterprise clients. As part of significant investment in Data, Analytics and AI, they're looking for a Lead Data Engineer to take ownership of their cloud-based data platform and help shape the future direction of the company's analytics, machine learning and AI capabilities.
This is a unique opportunity to join at a pivotal stage of growth. Initially, you'll operate as a highly influential senior individual contributor with end-to-end ownership of the data function. As the business continues to scale, you'll have the opportunity to build and lead a dedicated Data Engineering team.

The Role
As Lead Data Engineer, you'll be responsible for:
- Designing, building and maintaining scalable cloud-based data platforms.
- Developing robust ETL/ELT pipelines and data services.
- Creating trusted analytical datasets to support reporting, business intelligence and advanced analytics.
- Building APIs and data products used by enterprise clients.
- Supporting Machine Learning and AI initiatives through high-quality data engineering and architecture.
- Establishing data governance, quality, lineage and observability standards across the organisation.
- Collaborating with technical and business stakeholders to deliver data-driven solutions.
- Influencing the long-term data architecture, tooling and operating model of the business.
Essential Experience
We're looking for someone with:
- Strong experience designing, building and operating production-grade data platforms.
- Advanced SQL and data modelling expertise.
- Hands-on AWS experience within modern cloud environments.
- Experience developing scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration solutions.
- Experience working with large, complex datasets.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- A track record of influencing technical direction and driving best practice.

Desirable Experience
Any of the following would be advantageous:
- Experience supporting Machine Learning or AI workloads.
- Exposure to MLOps, Agentic AI or AI-powered products.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Looker or similar BI tools.
- Knowledge of data governance, security, lineage and observability frameworks.
- Experience working within fast-growth technology businesses or SaaS environments.
