About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Data Engineer to lead the technical direction of our data platform, which underpins Beamery’s reporting and AI strategy. This is a senior individual contributor role responsible for defining and executing the long-term architecture of our data systems. You will own critical decisions around platform design, scalability, and reliability, working closely with Engineering, Product, and Design leadership to ensure alignment with company objectives. The role requires a strategic thinker who thrives in ambiguous environments and measures success by the organization’s ability to leverage data effectively. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of our data infrastructure, enabling faster, more trustworthy decision-making across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in building and maintaining data platforms for internal and external consumers.
  • Proven expertise in data warehousing, data lakes, and both real-time and batch processing architectures.
  • Strong background in distributed, multi-tenant systems, with a focus on scalability and data integrity.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives without formal authority, collaborating with principal engineers, platform teams, and data scientists.
  • Deep understanding of data modeling, governance, and exposure of data as trustworthy products for BI, self-service, and AI consumers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to design solutions that balance technology, delivery risks, and organizational needs.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex tradeoffs and technical decisions to executive audiences.
  • Experience with modern data tools and cloud platforms is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the technical strategy for the data platform, including multi-quarter architectural vision and incremental delivery plans.
  • Design and implement scalable data models for core business metrics, feature signals, and AI workloads, ensuring data quality and governance.
  • Establish architectural standards, modeling conventions, and data contracts that promote consistency and best practices across teams.
  • Mentor and develop senior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and decision-making.
  • Own platform reliability by setting standards for observability, SLAs, data quality, and incident response.
  • Lead root cause analyses for critical failures and implement systemic improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex data challenges, balancing innovation with delivery risks.
  • Drive modernization efforts, adopting new technologies while ensuring stability and performance at scale.
