Data Platform Engineer

City of London (Hybrid – 3 days on-site) | Contract | £600/day, Inside IR35

A well-established Japanese investment bank operating in capital markets is bringing in a hands-on Data Platform Engineer to help drive its AWS cloud transformation programme. This is a genuine build-and-run role for someone who's happiest with their hands on the keyboard, not just steering from the sidelines.

You'll be joining the Applications team to build and operate data pipelines and integration flows across front and back office systems, combining data engineering with platform engineering to deliver production-ready services. Expect a mix of hands-on AWS delivery (Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge) and closer collaboration with the architecture team to keep implementation aligned with strategic direction.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Building and maintaining data pipelines and integration flows (batch and near real-time) across the Applications landscape
  • Delivering cloud-based data solutions on AWS aligned to architectural standards and the cloud transformation programme
  • Implementing scalable, resilient data processing patterns, including event-driven data flows
  • Working with messaging/streaming technologies to support data movement across systems
  • Supporting platform reliability – monitoring, alerting, and performance optimisation
  • Contributing to CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure-as-code for consistent, efficient delivery
  • Mentoring and upskilling team members to embed sustainable ways of working

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
