Senior Data Engineer - Public Sector - SC Cleared
6 Months (Immediate Start)
£500 - £545 per day inside IR35
Remote

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer for a 6-month contract to drive critical data warehouse modernization for a major UK government department. You will lead the migration of legacy SAS processes to Informatica PowerCenter, optimize Oracle database solutions, and ensure high-performance, robust data integration across enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Informatica ETL Engineering: Design, build, enhance, and maintain enterprise-grade ETL solutions and workflows using Informatica PowerCenter within a data warehouse environment.
  • Legacy SAS Migration: Analyze existing legacy SAS jobs, redesign ETL logic, and deliver robust Informatica-based solutions while ensuring strict data integrity and uninterrupted business outcomes.
  • Oracle Database Optimization: Create and fine-tune complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models to maximize performance, scalability, and data quality standards.

Requirements

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Informatica PowerCenter: Deep hands-on experience in building enterprise ETL solutions (v10.6 preferred).
  • Oracle Database Expertise: Strong proficiency in SQL, stored procedures, and data warehousing techniques.
  • UNIX Shell Scripting: Hands-on experience writing and maintaining scripts for operational automation.
  • SAS Knowledge: Practical understanding of SAS script logic to effectively analyze and migrate legacy processes.

Mandatory Certifications

  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (or higher)
  • Azure AI Fundamentals (awareness of cloud ML/AI services)

Desirable Experience

  • AWS and Big Data: Hands-on experience with AWS (S3, EMR, Lambda, Redshift, Athena) and PySpark/Python for large-scale batch processing.
  • CI/CD and DevOps: Experience with Git/GitLab workflows, automated testing, and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
  • Data Modeling and BI: Exposure to dimensional modeling, dbt, and basic familiarity with Power BI for validating end-to-end data pipelines.
  • Public Sector Context: Prior experience delivering scalable data engineering solutions in complex government or highly regulated environments using Agile (Jira/Confluence) methodologies.
