Data Engineer - London
We are actively seeking an accomplished and driven Data Engineer with hands-on proficiency in development, specifically utilizing the latest Fabric & Azure tools for data and analytics.
The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role within a team of highly skilled professionals, involved in the design, implementation, and maintenance of cutting-edge data solutions on the Fabric & Azure platform. This critical position is integral to facilitating data-driven decision-making processes and ensuring the seamless delivery of advanced analytics solutions.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Design and implementation of scalable and efficient data architecture on the Fabric & Azure platform in collaboration with the data architecture team.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Develop end-to-end systems with a focus on long-term maintenance and support.
- Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in data engineering and Azure services and evaluate their potential impact on our data infrastructure.
- Evaluate and recommend Fabric & Azure services and tools based on project requirements.
- Facilitate the transition of deliverables into service using IT Service Management.
- Develop and implement ETL processes using Fabric notebooks, Pipelines, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, or other relevant tools.
- Manage and secure structured and unstructured data flows from multiple sources and integrate them to create a unified and reliable data pipeline.
- Optimize data pipelines for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Ensure data quality and implement appropriate data governance practices.
- Design and implement analytical solutions using Fabric, Azure, Power BI, or similar tools.
- Optimize queries, dataflows and data models for performance and efficiency.
- Support the creation and maintenance of dashboards and reports by Data Analysts from both the Digital team and the wider self-service community.
- Implement and enforce security measures to protect sensitive data.
- Ensure development is compliant with data protection regulations and industry standards.
- Collaborate with the security team to address any identified vulnerabilities.
- Enforce best practices and governance in data management.
- Ensure development conforms to secure software development principles including adherence to coding standards, QA & peer review, and use of version control to promote changes out of development.

You’ll need to have:
- Knowledge of Fabric & Azure services such as Fabric Lakehouses, Notebooks, Pipelines, Workspaces, along with Data Factory, Databricks, Azure SQL, Synapse Analytics, LogicApps, PowerShell and Power BI.
- Proven experience as a data engineer for at least 5 years, with a focus on building data and analytics solutions using Fabric & Azure.
- Deep understanding of Azure data services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database, etc.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, PowerShell, and Python.
- Strong experience with data modelling, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with Azure DevOps/GIT for source control and managing code repositories.
- Practical knowledge and experience of Microsoft Fabric and cloud service offerings (SaaS/PaaS/IaaS) a significant advantage.
- Experience with enterprise software platforms (HRMS, ERP, CRM, PLM, Finance) desirable but not essential.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently while fostering collaboration.
- Experience working in a delivery team focused on solution quality.
- Experience in a similar role on large projects.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Highly motivated with a ‘can do’ and positive attitude; resilience and patience dealing with multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to take ownership of own workload.
- Organised and detail-oriented, ability to adopt a process-oriented approach.
- Ability to work well under pressure and to deadlines, prioritising tasks accordingly.
- Knowledge of IT Service management based on ITIL practices.
- Azure certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate or Azure Solutions Architect are preferred but not required.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
