About the Opportunity

We are seeking a technically minded individual to join one of our client organisations in the United Kingdom as a Data Engineering Intern. This opportunity is designed for students, recent graduates, and emerging technology professionals interested in data platforms, cloud computing, databases, data integration, and pipeline development.

The successful candidate will support practical data engineering initiatives while collaborating with experienced technical professionals. The role provides exposure to modern approaches for collecting, transforming, storing, and delivering reliable data for analytics and business applications.

Role Overview

The Data Engineering Intern will contribute to different stages of data infrastructure development, including data ingestion, transformation, pipeline management, database systems, data quality, automation, and cloud-based processing.

The ideal candidate should have a foundation in Python, SQL, databases, and data processing concepts, with an interest in building efficient and dependable data workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting and ingesting data from databases, APIs, files, and other sources.
  • Support the development and testing of ETL and ELT pipelines.
  • Transform and prepare datasets for analytics and downstream applications.
  • Develop SQL queries for extraction, transformation, validation, and data quality checks.
  • Assist with building repeatable and scalable data workflows.
  • Support database design, data modelling, and data warehouse activities.
  • Monitor data workflows and help investigate pipeline failures or processing issues.
  • Perform checks to identify incomplete, inconsistent, duplicated, or inaccurate data.
  • Assist with data migration and integration projects.
  • Support cloud-based data storage and processing activities.
  • Contribute to workflow scheduling and automation.
  • Assist with processing structured and semi-structured datasets.
  • Maintain documentation for databases, pipelines, workflows, and technical processes.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Analysts, Developers, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in technical discussions, project reviews, and team meetings.
  • Research emerging data engineering technologies and industry practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently studying towards or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in:
    • Computer Science
    • Data Engineering
    • Data Science
    • Software Engineering
    • Information Technology
    • Artificial Intelligence
    • Computer Engineering
    • or a related technical field.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Python.
  • Understanding of SQL and relational databases.
  • Familiarity with data structures and processing concepts.
  • Basic understanding of ETL and ELT processes.
  • Awareness of data pipeline and workflow concepts.
  • Understanding of fundamental database and data modelling principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute within a remote team.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge of modern data technologies.

  • Exposure to dimensional modelling and database optimisation.
  • Familiarity with distributed processing frameworks.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow.
  • Understanding of API-based data ingestion.
  • Awareness of batch and real-time data processing.
  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative development practices.
  • Exposure to scripting and workflow automation.
  • Basic understanding of data governance, security, and quality.
  • Interest in learning modern data infrastructure technologies.
