Data Engineering Lead - Databricks

Bristol (Hybrid - 3 Days per Week Onsite)

Up to £85,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits

We're partnering with a well-established, highly successful UK organisation undergoing a significant data transformation programme. As part of their continued investment in data and technology, they're seeking a Data Engineering Lead to drive technical excellence, mentor a talented team, and play a key role in the evolution of their cloud-based data landscape.

Data Engineering Lead - The Opportunity

This is an exciting leadership role where you'll combine strategic thinking with hands-on technical delivery. You'll lead a team of Data Engineers while helping to modernise and scale an enterprise data platform, with a particular focus on the continued development of a Databricks Lakehouse environment.

You'll have the opportunity to influence technology decisions, support major transformation initiatives, and deliver trusted data solutions that enable business growth and innovation.

Data Engineering Lead - Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of Data Engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership across data platforms, products and pipelines.
  • Drive the migration and enhancement of a Databricks-based data platform.
  • Design and maintain scalable data pipelines and curated datasets.
  • Support wider transformation initiatives including cloud and SaaS programmes.
  • Collaborate closely with Architecture, BI, Data Science and Technology teams.
  • Champion engineering best practice across testing, deployment, monitoring and code quality.
  • Ensure data platforms remain reliable, secure and high performing.
  • Promote Agile ways of working and continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience leading Data Engineering teams within a complex enterprise environment.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in modern cloud-based data platforms.
  • Excellent SQL and Python skills.
  • Strong experience with Databricks, Apache Spark and Lakehouse architectures.
  • Deep understanding of data engineering, data modelling and platform design.
  • Experience delivering solutions that support reporting, analytics and data science.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Comfortable balancing technical leadership with hands-on engineering responsibilities.
