Data Engineering Lead
Location: Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office (typically Tuesday–Thursday)
About the role
We’re looking for a Data Engineering Lead to join a growing organisation at an exciting time of significant data and technology transformation.
This is a broad and hands-on leadership role, combining data engineering, business analysis, data warehousing and team leadership. You’ll play a key role in transforming the data environment, supporting the migration from existing on-premise infrastructure to modern, cloud-based technology.
You’ll be joining a team that is moving quickly, responding to a wide range of business requirements and delivering against a large portfolio of business change and transformation initiatives. It’s an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, can operate at pace and wants to have a real influence on how an organisation uses data.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll have three key areas of responsibility:
- Data engineering & analytics: Supporting the development and delivery of robust data solutions, reporting and analytics for the wider business.
- Data warehouse transformation: Taking a leading role in the migration from an existing data warehouse to Databricks, establishing it as a key analytical platform.
- Team leadership: Leading and supporting a small data engineering team, delegating effectively and helping the team deliver at pace.
You’ll also:
- Work closely with stakeholders across the business to understand requirements and turn them into practical data solutions.
- Support sales reporting and data initiatives, ensuring the business has access to accurate, timely and useful information.
- Help drive the transition from on-premise systems to SaaS and cloud-based technology.
- Lead and contribute to business transformation and system migration projects.
- Prioritise and respond to a high volume of business requests, balancing immediate requirements with longer-term strategic priorities.
- Provide technical direction and support to other members of the data team.
- Help shape the future lakehouse and analytical architecture.
- Work collaboratively with both permanent and contractor resources, including offshore team members.

About you
We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical data engineering skills with the ability to lead, prioritise and communicate effectively.
You’ll ideally have:
- Strong experience in data engineering, with the ability to design and deliver reliable data solutions.
- Strong SQL and Python skills.
- Experience with Databricks or a comparable cloud-based data platform, such as Snowflake.
- Experience working with cloud-based data warehouses / lakehouse architectures.
- Experience leading or contributing to data warehouse migrations and wider technology transformations.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Experience delegating work and supporting other engineers to deliver effectively.
- A pragmatic, hands-on approach — you're comfortable getting into the detail when required, while also keeping sight of the bigger picture.
- Experience with SnapLogic would be a bonus, but isn't essential.
