Manager, Data Engineering Lead – SwapClear and Listed Rates

About the Role

LCH Ltd is an international multi-asset class central counterparty (CCP), part of the London Stock Exchange Group. serving a broad range of exchanges and OTC trading platforms, providing critical risk management services across global financial markets. This role offers an opportunity to work on one of the most critical technology functions in global finance, delivering a cloud-native, Snowflake-based data platform for regulatory reporting, risk visibility, membership reporting, and internal analytics.

LCH SwapClear & Listed Rates is a flagship business, the global leader in IRS (Interest Rate Swap) clearing, handling:

  • ~9 million new trades annually
  • Over $3.5 trillion notional traded daily
  • 60+ member bank groups and 1,000+ clients
  • Advanced daily post-trade processing features like margin optimisations
  • 90% market share in global cleared interest rate swaps

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Ownership:

    • Drive the end-to-end Reporting & Data Analytics platform for SwapClear and Listed Rates.
    • Ensure technical direction and governance alignment across data lineage, controls, and service resilience.
  • Strategic Migration & Transformation:

    • Lead the safe migration from legacy Oracle/Informatica to a cloud-native, Snowflake architecture.
    • Accountable for legacy decommissioning and platform stability during and post-transformation.
    • Design, implement, and oversee a multi-year phased delivery to meet systemically important market requirements.
  • Platform Evolution:

    • Define and drive the Strategic Cloud Data Platform’s evolution, embedding high availability, performance, resilience, and security.
    • Work with Product Owners, Delivery Leads, and Quality Engineering to ensure standards and outcomes.
    • Collaborate with Group Architecture Authority, Data Governance, and business partners for alignment.

  • Stakeholder & Team Leadership:
    • Build and develop a senior engineering team with a focus on professional growth.
    • Establish technical standards and drive adoption of modern testing, automation, and observability practices (e.g., Datadog, cloud-native practices).
    • Represent engineering excellence as a senior technical advisor to governance and strategy bodies.

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • 15+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including 5+ years as a technical lead with a track record of high-quality enterprise-scale solutions.
  • Deep expertise in cloud-first data architectures:
    • Snowflake implementations (or similar platforms).
    • ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) methodologies (pascal emphasis: dbt).
    • Data warehousing and lake solutions (SQL, PL/SQL, Bash, Python).
  • Data modelling & architecture:
    • Incremental, immutable, versioned architectures.
    • Enterprise-scale governance, lineage, and controls frameworks.
  • Legacy migration experience preferably with Informatica PowerCenter or equivalent tools.
  • Data governance and regulatory compliance expertise (critical for a systemically important market infrastructure).
  • Senior leadership to influence architectural and governance discussions with credibility.
  • Passionate about data-driven decision-making with ** metrics-centric problem-solving skills**.
  • AI/ML application experience in data engineering & migration contexts.

Preferred/Desired

  • Background in regulated, high-availability environments (financial markets, critical infrastructure).
  • Education: Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • On-prem and cloud technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Azure/GCP/AWS).
    • Real-time & batch process orchestration (e.g., Apache Airflow, Kubernetes).
    • Observability tools (Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus).
    • Financial industry exposure (clearing, risk systems, regulatory reporting).
  • Agile framework experience (Scrum, Kanban).
  • Cybersecurity knowledge with a secure-by-design mindset.
