Data Engineering Manager – Speciality Insurance
London | Hybrid
Up to £130,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
Arthur is exclusively partnering with a highly respected specialty insurer to appoint a Data Engineering Manager to play a key role in building and evolving its modern data capability.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, ideal for someone who wants to remain close to engineering and delivery while taking greater ownership of technical strategy, architecture, engineering standards, and team leadership.
Rather than a traditional management position removed from the technology, you'll be expected to provide strong technical direction, challenge engineering decisions, and ensure the team delivers a scalable, high-quality modern data platform.
You'll help shape the engineering roadmap while remaining close enough to the technology to understand how solutions are being designed, built, and deployed.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the Data Engineering function, providing technical leadership across engineers and delivery partners.
- Own and evolve the data engineering strategy, technical roadmap, and engineering standards.
- Lead the design, development, and ongoing evolution of a modern cloud data platform.
- Remain close to technical delivery, providing guidance across architecture, engineering patterns, pipelines, data modelling, and platform design.
- Drive engineering best practice across CI/CD, testing, automation, observability, performance, and DataOps.
- Review and challenge technical designs, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with the wider architecture.
- Lead and develop Data Engineers, creating a strong engineering culture and raising technical standards.
- Work closely with Architecture, Technology, Analytics, and business teams to translate requirements into robust data solutions.
- Support the organisation's longer-term Data & AI strategy, ensuring the engineering platform can enable advanced analytics and AI use cases.
- Manage strategic technology partners and third-party engineering resources where required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
