Job Title: Data Engineering Technical Lead
Location: London
Duration: 12+ Months Inside IR35 Contract
We are looking for a hands-on, highly adaptable Engineering Technical Lead to jump into a high-visibility data transformation project on short notice.
This hybrid role sits at the intersection of Solution Architecture, Product Ownership, Business Analysis, and Data Engineering. You will bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical execution—spending time face-to-face with clients to translate business requirements into a clear technical backlog, while guiding a team of 3–4 junior-to-mid-level engineers through execution.
The core deliverable is a migration from Amazon Redshift to Snowflake, with complex data retention rules, compliance considerations, and significant business change management.
Key Responsibilities
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary technical point of contact for business stakeholders. Lead discovery workshops, unpack business requirements, and manage change expectations across teams.
- Architecture & Product Ownership: Review the migration roadmap from Redshift to Snowflake, ensuring the data architecture supports long-term scalability, governance, and strict data retention policies. Translate high-level business goals into structured epics, user stories, and actionable technical tasks; manage the team’s sprint backlog.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and mentor a team of 3–4 engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and pair programming to elevate overall delivery quality.
- Hands-on Execution: Step into the code/pipelines when needed to unblock engineers, validate technical designs, and establish best practices for data modeling and transformation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
