Job Title: Data Governance Analyst

Location: Manchester (Hybrid)
Salary: Competitive + Bonus + Excellent Benefits

You'll join a growing data function where governance is central to the wider data strategy, working closely with business and technical stakeholders to improve data quality, ownership, standards and governance across the organisation. You'll help build a modern data culture while supporting exciting initiatives around analytics, AI and enterprise data platforms.

Data Governance Analyst Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the organisation's data governance framework, policies and standards.
  • Maintain and administer data governance tooling, ensuring metadata, business glossary content, ownership, classifications and lineage remain accurate and up to date.
  • Work with Data Owners and Data Stewards to define business terms, critical data elements, data standards and governance controls.
  • Capture and document business definitions, metadata, data dictionaries and governance artefacts across multiple business domains.
  • Monitor data governance compliance, supporting audits, risk management and regulatory requirements.
  • Track data quality issues, governance actions and remediation plans, reporting progress through governance forums.
  • Produce governance reporting, dashboards and management information for senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with business, technology, risk and compliance teams to improve data quality, consistency and ownership across the organisation.
  • Support training, communications and stakeholder engagement activities to promote a strong data-led culture.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance governance processes, tooling and ways of working through continuous improvement.

Data Governance Analyst Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Data Governance Analyst, Data Steward, Data Governance Consultant or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, metadata management, business glossaries, data catalogues and governance controls.
  • Experience working with Data Owners, Data Stewards and business stakeholders to improve data governance practices.
  • Knowledge of data quality principles, including accuracy, completeness, consistency and timeliness.
  • Experience documenting business definitions, data standards and governance artefacts.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel capability.
  • Experience using data governance platforms or metadata management tools.
  • SQL knowledge would be beneficial.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps or similar workflow tools would be advantageous.
  • Experience within insurance, financial services or another regulated environment would be highly desirable.
