Data Governance and Adoption Lead

Full-time
Initial 3 month contract
💰 £650 - £750 per day inside IR35 via umbrella, with some flexibility for the right person.
📍 Remote, with at most one day a week in Central London and realistically more like one or two days a month

Company & Role

This role is with a global IT services and managed services provider that is partway through a significant internal data programme. Master data management is being built out, core systems are being integrated, and the underlying technology is already moving. What is missing is the people side.

The role exists to change how the organisation thinks about data. Not to write a governance framework and hand it over, but to get business teams to treat data as a shared asset, to stand up Data Owners and Data Stewards who understand what they are actually signing up for, and to get data right at source rather than endlessly cleansed downstream.

You will report into the Head of Data and Analytics and work alongside the technical teams delivering the platform underneath. It is an adoption and behavioural change role sitting inside a data programme, so you need to be credible in both worlds.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Genuine open ground on the culture side. The programme is live and funded, but nobody has owned the behavioural change yet.
  • You will define the ownership and stewardship model rather than inherit somebody else's.
  • Direct line into the Head of Data and Analytics, so you are close to the decisions rather than three layers below them.
  • Exposure right across the business, from executive stakeholders to operational system owners.
  • Remote in practice. London is available if you want it, but this is not a role that pulls you into an office every week.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build a business led data culture, translating governance, data quality, master data management, ownership and stewardship into language that lands with business users rather than data specialists.
  • Define, communicate and embed Data Owner and Data Steward roles, work with business leaders to identify the right people for key data domains, then coach them so they can actually perform the role.
  • Act as the interface between business stakeholders and the technical teams designing and implementing the data and MDM capability, translating in both directions.
  • Drive the shift towards getting data right at source, tackling the root cause of recurring data quality issues rather than correcting the symptoms downstream.
  • Build awareness of end to end data dependencies, so system owners understand the downstream impact of changing a field, definition or business rule in an integrated estate.
  • Design and deliver the engagement that makes it stick, including communications, workshops, training and one to one coaching, pitched differently for leaders, owners and operational users.
  • Measure adoption and data maturity over time and flag where further intervention or leadership air cover is needed.

Ideal Experience

  • A background spanning data governance or data management and organisational change, rather than one or the other. This role needs both.
  • Practical experience designing or embedding data ownership and stewardship operating models in a real organisation, not just on paper.
  • Exposure to master data management programmes and the business engagement that sits around them.
  • Track record on data quality improvement, particularly prevention at source rather than downstream remediation.
  • Enough understanding of data architecture, data models, integration and APIs to hold your own with architects and developers. Deep engineering experience is not required, but credibility with technical teams is.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, comfortable running workshops, training and executive conversations.
  • Able to influence and challenge without formal authority, and pragmatic rather than theoretical about governance.
  • Experience in complex enterprise or multi system environments, ideally where business and digital transformation is already underway.

If you are the sort of person who can make a room full of sceptical business users care about data ownership, and then stay close enough to the technical delivery to keep it honest, this is a good fit.
