Data Governance Consultant
We are looking for an experienced Data Governance Consultant to help clients establish, implement, and mature enterprise data governance capabilities. The successful candidate will combine strong practical experience in data governance, data management, and governance tooling with excellent communication, project management, and stakeholder management skills.
The role will involve working closely with business, data, technology, risk, and compliance stakeholders to define governance frameworks, establish ownership and accountability, improve data quality, and drive adoption of governance processes across the organization. Hands-on experience with Collibra or Elysian is highly desirable, particularly in implementing or configuring data governance capabilities, workflows, data ownership models, and governance processes.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and operating models
- Define and establish data ownership, stewardship, accountability, and decision-making structures
- Develop and implement processes for data ownership, data quality, metadata management, data classification, and business glossaries
- Define critical data elements, data domains, governance requirements, and data management standards
- Assess existing governance capabilities and develop practical data governance roadmaps and maturity improvement plans
- Lead or support implementation and adoption of Collibra, Elysian, or comparable data governance platforms
- Configure or define governance workflows, business glossaries, data domains, ownership models, and approval processes
- Support integration of governance platforms with enterprise data platforms, data catalogues, and other data management technologies
- Translate business governance requirements into practical tooling, process, and technical requirements
- Drive adoption of governance platforms and demonstrate measurable business value
- Facilitate workshops with Data Owners, Data Stewards, CDO/Data Office teams, business stakeholders, technology teams, risk, and compliance functions
- Work closely with senior business and technology stakeholders to understand governance challenges, priorities, and requirements
- Build consensus across stakeholders with different priorities and drive effective governance decisions
- Lead data governance workstreams from requirements gathering through implementation, adoption, and continuous improvement
- Define project plans, milestones, dependencies, risks, deliverables, and governance outcomes
- Coordinate activities across business, data, technology, risk, and compliance teams
- Track delivery progress and proactively manage risks, issues, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations
- Prepare project status reports, steering committee updates, governance documentation, policies, and operating model materials
- Establish KPIs and measures to demonstrate governance effectiveness, adoption, data quality improvements, and business outcomes
- Support change management, training, communication, and adoption activities across the organization
- Provide consulting and advisory support on data governance strategy, operating models, frameworks, and implementation approaches
- Ensure governance initiatives are practical, scalable, aligned with business objectives, and compliant with relevant regulatory and risk requirements

- 6+ years of professional experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality, or a closely related discipline
- Strong hands-on experience designing and implementing enterprise data governance frameworks and operating models
- Strong understanding of data ownership, stewardship, accountability, and governance decision-making structures
- Strong knowledge of business glossaries, metadata management, data quality, data classification, data lineage, and data policies
- Experience defining critical data elements, data domains, governance requirements, and data management standards
- Practical hands-on experience with Collibra, Elysian, or comparable data governance/catalogue platforms
- Experience configuring or implementing governance workflows, business glossaries, ownership models, approval processes, and governance capabilities
- Strong understanding of data governance operating models and governance maturity frameworks
- Experience working with senior business, technology, data, risk, compliance, and CDO/Data Office stakeholders
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, presentation, and workshop facilitation skills
- Strong project management and delivery management experience, including planning, dependencies, risks, issues, and milestones
- Ability to translate business requirements into practical data governance processes, operating models, and technology solutions
- Strong documentation, analytical, problem-solving, and requirements management skills
- Experience working in a consulting, advisory, or client-facing environment
- Experience delivering data governance programmes within large or complex enterprises is preferred
- Experience with data catalogues and metadata management platforms is preferred
- Knowledge of technologies such as Microsoft Purview, Informatica, Alation, Atlan, Databricks, Snowflake, or Microsoft Fabric is preferred
- Understanding of data privacy, regulatory compliance, risk management, and governance requirements is preferred
- Knowledge of data management frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK is preferred
- Experience working within a Chief Data Officer (CDO) or Data Office function is preferred
- Relevant certifications in Data Governance, Data Management, Collibra, or related disciplines are an advantage
- Experience in financial services, telecommunications, retail, healthcare, or other highly regulated industries is preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, Business, or a related discipline
- Strong consulting mindset with the ability to challenge assumptions constructively and recommend pragmatic governance solutions
- Strong leadership, ownership, collaboration, and client-facing skills
