DATA GOVERNANCE & AI CONSULTANT – UP TO £80,000 – BRISTOL (HYBRID) – 2 DAYS PER WEEK ON-SITE – SC REQUIRED

MERITUS are recruiting for a Data Governance & AI Consultant to join a leading organisation delivering complex UK Central Government and Defence programmes.

This role would suit an experienced Data Governance, Data Management, or AI Assurance Consultant with expertise across data governance, data quality, metadata, lineage, and responsible AI. Experience within Defence, maritime, hydrographic, sonar, underwater mapping, or oil & gas would be highly beneficial.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver data governance policies, standards, RACI, and stewardship models.
  • Develop data quality frameworks, scorecards, and remediation processes.
  • Support metadata, data cataloguing, business glossaries, lineage, and classification.
  • Contribute to AI assurance covering training data, model selection, testing, evaluation, and monitoring.
  • Produce governance frameworks, operating procedures, evaluation plans, risk assessments, and assurance reports.
  • Run stakeholder workshops and translate requirements into practical solutions.
  • Support assurance reviews, audits, and quality gates.
  • Work with data architects, engineers, and security teams across client engagements.
  • Contribute to proposals, pre-sales, and knowledge-sharing activities.

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • SC Clearance – active or lapsed.
  • Proven experience in data governance or data management.
  • Strong knowledge of data quality, metadata, lineage, cataloguing, and stewardship.
  • Experience developing governance policies, standards, and operating models.
  • Practical experience with AI governance, AI assurance, or responsible AI.
  • Understanding of AI/model testing, evaluation, and risk assessment.
  • Strong consulting, stakeholder management, and communication skills.

Desirable:

  • UK Central Government, Defence, or regulated-sector experience.
  • Defence, maritime, hydrographic, sonar, underwater mapping, or oil & gas experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview, Azure ML, Databricks, MLflow, or Microsoft Fabric.
  • Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK, NIST AI RMF, ISO 23894, ISO 27001, or UK GDPR.
  • MLOps, model monitoring, or AI risk/control experience.
