Data Governance Lead | York | Hybrid | 18-Month FTC
Are you a Data Governance professional looking for your next opportunity, where you can take ownership of implementing and embedding good data governance practices across an organisation?
I’m currently supporting a Housing / Not-for-Profit organisation that is looking for a Data Governance Lead to help roll out and embed a new data governance framework.
This is a hands-on role that would suit someone with a solid understanding of data governance and data quality, who enjoys working with people and wants the opportunity to make a tangible difference to how an organisation manages its data.
You’ll work closely with Data Owners, Data Stewards and wider stakeholders, helping them understand their responsibilities and putting practical governance processes in place.
A big part of the role will be supporting the implementation of the organisation’s data governance framework. This will include running workshops, delivering training, developing guidance and helping teams understand how good data governance can improve the quality and reliability of their information.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Experience working with or embedding data governance frameworks or policies
- Experience delivering training, presentations or facilitating workshops

Experience with data governance or data quality tools would be beneficial

You don’t need to be a senior Data Governance specialist or have spent your career leading large-scale governance programmes. They’re looking for someone who understands the fundamentals, can work confidently with stakeholders and is capable of taking ownership and getting things embedded.
This could therefore suit someone who has worked in Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Management, Business Intelligence or a related data role and is looking to move further into governance.
