About the Role
The Data & AI team is responsible for building B Lab's data platform, delivering on business priorities, and scaling AI adoption across the organization. The team reports directly to the CTDO. The Data & ML Platforms team owns the data platform, ML infrastructure, and the foundational data models the rest of the Data & AI team depends on — the supply-side capability layer that Business & Data Priorities and AI Enablement build on.
As the Data Governance Lead on the Data & ML Platforms pillar, you own data standards, definitions, and sensitivity classification across B Lab's data platform, and ensure the platform and its analytics comply with relevant laws and documentation requirements. Beyond governance, you play a growing role in building data literacy across the organization — helping teams understand and trust the data available to them, and ensuring definitions and standards are actually adopted, not just documented. You work closely with the Senior Analytics Engineer and Data Engineer to make sure new models and pipelines are built to standard from the start.
Core Responsibilities
Data Standards & Governance (35%)
- Own Data Standards & Definitions: Establish and maintain the organization's data standards, definitions, and sensitivity classifications.
- Ensure Compliance: Keep the data platform and analytics practices compliant with relevant laws and internal policy.
Data Literacy & Adoption (30%)
- Drive Standards Adoption: Work across pillars to ensure data standards are actually used, not just documented.
- Build Data Literacy: Develop training, documentation, and other enablement so teams across B Lab can confidently interpret and trust the data available to them.
Cross-Pillar Partnership (25%)
- Partner with Platform Peers: Work with the Senior Analytics Engineer and Data Engineer to ensure new models and pipelines are built to standard.
- Support Pillar 2 & 3: Help Network Priorities, Regional Enablement, and AI Enablement apply data standards consistently in their work.
Strategic Innovation & Business Impact (10%)
- Evaluate Governance Tooling: Explore and pilot new tools or approaches for data cataloging, lineage, and standards enforcement.
- Quantify Literacy Impact: Track and articulate how improved data literacy and standards adoption reduce rework and improve decision quality across teams.
Major Objectives/Project for the role in the first 6-12 months
- Create concepts for data classification (public, private, sensitive, etc)
- Apply concepts to our data
- Enable network to understand concepts and how to interact with them
- Enable the Data Platform to be more aligned with regulatory requirements and laws
About You
- Overall 3+ years of experience in data modeling and/or data governance roles
- SQL/Data Fluency: Working knowledge of SQL and data models sufficient to audit and advise on governance implementation.
- Data Governance: Experience establishing and maintaining data standards, definitions, and sensitivity/classification frameworks.
- Data Literacy & Enablement: Experience communicating technical data concepts to non-technical stakeholders and driving adoption of standards across teams.
- Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with data-related legal and regulatory requirements relevant to the organization's data platform and analytics.
- Documentation: Strong written communication skills; comfort building and maintaining clear, discoverable documentation.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Ability to influence without direct authority across the Data & AI department.
- Excellent communication skills and comfort with facilitating live and asynchronous trainings or workshops on data governance
- A BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred
- Fluent in English

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
