We have an opportunity for a Data Governance Specialist to join our team on a 12 month fixed term basis.

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Specialist to join our team, which supports business decisions, regulatory assurance, and drives the implementation of data governance frameworks. The successful candidate will work closely with key stakeholders, including the Head of Data and Analytics, to ensure data governance policies are effectively embedded within the organization, enabling secure, high-quality data management and providing actionable insights through data analysis. This is a strategic role combining data governance, management, and technical skills to support the organization's data needs.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead the development, implementation, and management of data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Advocate for best practices around data ownership, data stewardship, and data security, ensuring adherence to the data enterprise architecture.
  • Advocate for improved data governance and data culture across the business and support training and development of staff through appropriate training to ensure data is treated as a strategic asset.
  • Monitor adherence to data governance policies, addressing data risks and issues with data owners.
  • Establish and manage key data management competencies such as data quality assurance, metadata management, master data management, and data modelling.
  • Support data governance controls to maintain high-quality data across the organization.
  • Document and maintain in data governance tools/offline source-to-target mappings, data flows, and data definitions, ensuring compliance with data standards and strategy.
  • Collaborate with Data Analysts, Data Quality Managers, head of business lines (Data Owners and Data Stewards) and other technical and business stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of data governance practices.
  • Monitor team workflows, resource allocation, and project progress, while ensuring team members' professional development through training and development.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in a Data Governance or related role.
  • Experience of an industry data governance framework such as DAMA or related framework.
  • Ideally working towards or holding a qualification in data governance, data science, or data analysis.
  • Experience in data governance applications (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Informatica, Collibra, or Talend) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI), advanced Excel skills, data analysis and experience with SQL queries.
  • Understanding of metadata management, data modelling, master data management, and data standards development.
  • Knowledge of banking, investment environments, or finance-related compliance and risk management.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes.
  • Strong communication skills, able to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and coach team members, developing strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
