About the Independent Federation for Safeguarding
The Independent Federation for Safeguarding (IfS) is a professional body dedicated to empowering those who protect children, young people and adults. IfS was founded to ensure every individual with safeguarding responsibilities—particularly Designated Safeguarding Leads, Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads and Designated Safeguarding Officers—has the knowledge, skills, and support they need to protect children, young people and adults effectively. We provide training, supervision and support for our members.
We are looking for a motivated Data and Insights Intern to support our work by helping us turn information and evidence into meaningful insights that can improve safeguarding practice and inform decision-making.
The Role
As a Data and Insights Intern, you will work alongside colleagues across IfS to collect, organise, analyse and present data. You will help identify patterns and emerging themes, contribute to research and insight projects, and support the development of clear evidence-based reports and briefings.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in data analysis, research, safeguarding, public policy, social impact or organisational improvement who wants to gain practical experience in a purpose-driven organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the collection, cleaning and organisation of quantitative and qualitative data.
- Analyse datasets to identify trends, patterns, themes and areas requiring further investigation.
- Assist with surveys, research projects and evidence-gathering activities.
- Produce clear charts, tables, dashboards and summaries for internal and external audiences.
- Contribute to regular insight reports, briefings and presentations.
- Help maintain accurate and well-organised data records.
- Support colleagues in interpreting data and translating findings into practical recommendations.
- Undertake desk research and contribute to literature and evidence reviews.
- Monitor relevant safeguarding developments, research and emerging issues.
- Help ensure data is handled responsibly and in accordance with confidentiality, data protection and safeguarding requirements.
- Undertake other relevant analytical and research tasks as required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
