I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

THE ROLE
As Data Lead, Commercial Domain, you'll be the senior data partner to Commercial leadership, responsible for defining and driving the domain's data agenda.
You'll translate commercial strategy into a clear and prioritised data roadmap, ensuring data investments deliver measurable value across revenue, efficiency, customer experience, risk and compliance.
This is a highly visible role where you'll lead through influence rather than direct line management, bringing together expertise from across the central data function to deliver outcomes that matter.
What you'll be doing:
- Owning and shaping the Commercial domain data strategy and roadmap.
- Defining, prioritising and tracking a portfolio of high-value data initiatives.
- Acting as a trusted advisor to Commercial leadership on data opportunities and challenges.
- Translating business problems into data products, analytics use cases and delivery priorities.
- Coordinating cross-functional delivery squads made up of analysts, engineers, architects, scientists and product specialists.
- Driving adoption of data products and embedding product-thinking approaches across the domain.
- Securing the right resources and managing competing priorities across shared teams.
- Championing data governance, quality and compliance standards within the Commercial domain.
- Building strong relationships across business areas to unlock enterprise-wide opportunities.
- Developing data maturity and promoting data ownership across stakeholders and teams.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Significant experience in data and analytics, ideally within aviation, travel, retail, financial services, hospitality, telecoms or similar industries.
- A strong track record of delivering measurable commercial outcomes through data.
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders and operating as a trusted business partner.
- Proven success coordinating multi-disciplinary teams in a matrix environment.
- Strong understanding of revenue management, pricing, inventory optimisation, demand forecasting or ancillary revenue analytics.
- Knowledge of modern data platforms, ideally Databricks, with familiarity across cloud technologies.
- Understanding of data products, domain-led operating models and modern governance practices.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and engaging way.
- Strong stakeholder management, prioritisation and decision-making skills.
- A pragmatic, outcome-focused approach and the confidence to operate in ambiguity.
