Role: Data Lead (GCP)

Location: City of London Salary: £95,000 Flexible working: 3 days a week in the office

We’re looking for an experienced GCP Platform / Data Engineering Lead to take ownership of a newly implemented Google Cloud data platform and play a key role in its transition into BAU. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working across cloud technology, data platforms, third parties and stakeholders, rather than sitting purely within a strategic architecture function.

The Role

  • Take technical ownership of a new GCP data platform, overseeing its transition from implementation into a stable BAU environment.
  • Work closely with managed service providers, developers, application and infrastructure teams to manage deployments, technical change, best practice and platform stability.
  • Provide technical oversight across a number of major transformation programmes, including Salesforce, Claims, Reinsurance and legacy platform modernisation, ensuring new data is successfully ingested into the GCP platform.
  • Coach and mentor team members developing their GCP capability, while providing task and matrix leadership across internal teams and third parties.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for senior stakeholders, with the ability to explain complex cloud and data concepts clearly without unnecessary technical detail.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
