Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Migration Mapping & ETL Lead to take ownership of source-to-target mapping, system compatibility analysis, data modelling and the delivery of ETL development activities within a complex data migration programme.
The successful candidate will go beyond traditional field-level mapping. They will develop a deep understanding of how both source and target platforms model, validate and process data, including their respective business rules, constraints, structures and behaviours.
A key responsibility will be identifying conceptual and behavioural differences between systems during discovery and translating these into agreed design decisions. The objective is to ensure that potential behavioural gaps are understood and resolved before testing, rather than emerging as defects later in the migration lifecycle.
Experience working with Avaloq would be highly desirable, particularly within data migration, data mapping, data modelling, ETL, system integration or testing.
Key Responsibilities
Source-to-Target Mapping & System Compatibility
- Own the end-to-end source-to-target mapping process.
- Analyse source and target systems to understand their underlying data models, structures, validation rules, business rules and processing behaviour.
- Identify and document conceptual, structural and behavioural differences between source and target platforms.
- Assess system compatibility and identify gaps, constraints and transformation requirements.
- Ensure mapping decisions account for more than simple field-level equivalence.
- Drive early resolution of system and data mismatches, ensuring behavioural differences become explicit design decisions rather than defects discovered during testing.
- Produce and maintain high-quality mapping and supporting design documentation.
- Where applicable, understand and document how Avaloq structures, validates and processes data and how these characteristics impact migration design.
Data Modelling
- Create and maintain Conceptual, Logical and Physical Data/Object Models.
- Translate business and technical requirements into appropriate data models.
- Define relationships, attributes, structures, rules and dependencies across source and target systems.
- Ensure mapping documentation is consistent with the agreed data models and migration design.
- Identify differences between source and target object models and determine the appropriate transformation or migration approach.

ETL Delivery & Team Leadership
- Define the ETL development sprint plan, including sequencing, dependencies, priorities and deliverables.
- Manage and coordinate the ETL development team to deliver against the agreed sprint plan.
- Provide technical direction and support to ETL developers.
- Monitor progress, identify delivery risks and resolve blockers.
- Ensure ETL development aligns with approved mappings, data models and migration requirements.
- Work collaboratively with wider migration workstreams to manage dependencies and delivery milestones.
Business Stakeholder Engagement & Mapping Sign-Off
- Lead mapping workshops and meetings with business and technical stakeholders.
- Facilitate discussions to establish a shared understanding of source and target data.
- Challenge assumptions and identify gaps or ambiguities in requirements and mappings.
- Drive stakeholders towards agreement on transformation rules and mapping decisions.
- Document decisions, actions and outstanding issues.
- Obtain formal mapping approval and sign-off from relevant stakeholders.
Testing, Defect Management & Root Cause Analysis
- Work closely with the Test Manager throughout migration testing.
- Collaborate with testing, data, business and other migration sub-workstreams to investigate migration defects.
- Lead or contribute to root cause analysis (RCA) of migration defects.
- Determine whether defects originate from source data, mapping, transformation logic, target-system behaviour, ETL development or other migration components.
- Feed findings back into mapping, design and ETL processes to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure lessons learned and agreed changes are appropriately documented and communicated.
Tools & Documentation
- Use Jira to manage delivery activities, defects, actions, dependencies and sprint-related work.
- Use Confluence to create and maintain mapping, design, decision and project documentation.
- Maintain clear traceability between requirements, mappings, development activities, testing and defect resolution.
Essential Experience
Candidates should demonstrate strong, relevant experience in the following areas:
1. Conceptual, Logical and Physical Object/Data Modelling
- Proven experience creating conceptual, logical and physical object/data models.
- Experience producing and maintaining associated mapping and design documentation.
- Ability to translate complex business and technical requirements into clear data structures and mappings.

2. Source-to-Target Mapping & System Analysis
- Significant experience owning source-to-target mappings within data migration programmes.
- Strong understanding of system compatibility and the differences between how platforms model, validate and process data.
- Experience identifying conceptual and behavioural mismatches during discovery and converting them into agreed design decisions.
- Ability to understand the business and technical semantics of data, rather than treating mapping as a purely field-level exercise.
3. ETL Delivery & Team Management
- Experience defining sprint plans for ETL development.
- Proven ability to manage, coordinate or lead an ETL development team.
- Strong understanding of ETL development, transformation logic and migration delivery.
4. Business Stakeholder Management
- Experience leading mapping workshops with business stakeholders.
- Ability to challenge, facilitate and drive agreement on complex mapping and transformation decisions.
- Proven experience obtaining formal mapping sign-off.
5. Migration Testing & Defect Resolution
- Experience working closely with Test Managers and wider migration workstreams.
- Strong experience in migration defect investigation and root cause analysis (RCA).
- Ability to distinguish between mapping, data, ETL, transformation and target-system issues.
6. Jira & Confluence
- Practical experience using Jira for delivery, sprint and defect management.
- Practical experience using Confluence for technical, mapping and project documentation.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working with Avaloq, particularly in the context of data migration, source-to-target mapping, data modelling, system integration, ETL or testing.
- Good understanding of Avaloq data structures, object models, validation rules and processing behaviour.
- Experience delivering complex enterprise-scale data migration programmes, ideally within financial services or banking.
- Experience working across multiple source and target platforms.
- Experience migrating between systems with materially different data models, business rules or processing behaviours.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
- Strong understanding of data quality, validation, transformation and reconciliation.
- Experience working across multidisciplinary migration teams, including business, architecture, development, testing and data workstreams.
