The Role
We are looking for a Data / MI Business Analyst to work with business stakeholders, technical teams and data specialists to turn reporting and analytical needs into clear, well-evidenced requirements. You will investigate existing reports, datasets and data processes, uncover quality issues and gaps, and define the KPIs, metrics and specifications that shape better MI and dashboards.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with business stakeholders to understand and clarify MI, reporting and analytical requirements, including the underlying business questions and outcomes.
- Investigate existing reports, dashboards, datasets and data processes to understand what is currently available, how it is produced and what is missing.
- Analyse data using SQL and other analytical techniques to identify data quality issues, discrepancies, trends, anomalies and gaps.
- Define and document KPIs, metrics, business definitions, calculation logic, rules, assumptions and data requirements.
- Investigate discrepancies between legacy systems, datasets and reports, working with technical teams to establish root causes and agree remediation.
- Translate business and analytical needs into clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and reporting/dashboard specifications.
- Identify where required data is available, partially available or unavailable, and define the requirements needed to address gaps.
- Work closely with MI developers, Data Analysts, Data Engineers and Architects to refine requirements and validate analytical solutions.
- Produce clear documentation, including requirements, metric definitions, data mappings, investigation findings, data-quality assessments and recommendations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
