About the Role
We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer with strong expertise in data modelling, working with NoSQL databases (Azure Cosmos DB), and hands-on experience in data contract design and data migration. The ideal candidate will also have working knowledge of Azure Data Factory (ADF) and SQL, and will play a key role in designing scalable data models, pipelines, and integration solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Design, develop, and manage NoSQL implementations using Azure Cosmos DB, ensuring performance, scalability, and cost efficiency (partitioning strategy, indexing, RU optimization).
- Define and implement data contracts to ensure consistency, quality, and governance across upstream and downstream systems.
- Lead and support data migration projects, including planning, execution, validation, and reconciliation between source and target systems.
- Build and orchestrate ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF).
- Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and views for relational data processing and reporting.
- Translate business requirements into scalable, well-documented data models and schemas.
- Collaborate with data architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to align data models with reporting and application needs.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, resolving performance bottlenecks and data quality issues.
- Ensure adherence to data security, compliance, and governance standards.
- Maintain data dictionaries, ER diagrams, schemas, contracts, and migration documentation.

Required Skills
- Strong experience in data modelling — ER diagrams, normalization/denormalization, dimensional modelling (star/snowflake schemas), and NoSQL schema design.
- Strong hands-on experience with NoSQL databases, particularly Azure Cosmos DB.
- Proven experience in data contract design (schema definition, versioning, validation rules).
- Practical experience executing data migration projects (legacy-to-cloud, on-prem-to-Azure, or database-to-database).
- Working experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF) for pipeline design, orchestration, and monitoring.
- Solid SQL skills — querying, performance tuning, and stored procedure development.
- Familiarity with data modelling tools.
- Familiarity with Azure ecosystem tools (e.g., Azure Storage, Synapse, Databricks).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to data quality and integrity.
