Insurance Billing Data & Migration Engineer – SAP / APIs, Policy Admin Systems (PAS)

Location: Remote 100%
Engagement: Contract
Industry: Insurance

The Role

The ideal candidate will have experience of an Insurance Platform (PAS) - particularly the Billing elements.

We are looking for an experienced Data & Migration Engineer to support a major insurance transformation programme, migrating billing capabilities from a legacy insurance platform into an SAP-based environment. This is a hands-on technical role requiring strong understanding of insurance billing and financial data, combined with practical experience of data migration, APIs and system integration.

The successful candidate does not necessarily need to be an SAP functional consultant, but must have a strong understanding of SAP architecture and capabilities, including where SAP works well, its limitations, and how data and business processes should be designed around the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse existing insurance billing data, processes, business rules and integrations within the legacy platform.
  • Support the migration and transformation of billing capabilities and data into SAP.
  • Perform data mapping, transformation, cleansing, reconciliation and migration between legacy and target environments.
  • Understand complex billing relationships including policies, premiums, invoices, payments, adjustments, refunds, commissions and financial transactions.
  • Work closely with SAP and legacy-platform SMEs to determine what should be migrated, transformed, redesigned or retired.
  • Design and develop APIs and integration services connecting SAP with insurance and surrounding enterprise systems.
  • Assess existing business logic and determine whether functionality should sit within SAP, APIs/integration layers or surrounding applications.
  • Support API performance, scalability, monitoring, alerting and observability, particularly where transaction volumes are high.
  • Contribute to migration testing, automation, reconciliation and production cutover activities.
  • Identify potential SAP constraints or limitations early and propose pragmatic technical solutions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Key Experience

ESSENTIAL: Required knowledge of an Insurance Platform, specifically the Billing elements

  • Significant experience within insurance, ideally involving billing, premium or payment systems.
  • Good working knowledge of SAP, including its data structures, integration capabilities, strengths and limitations.
  • Experience working with SAP sitting on Oracle or comparable enterprise database environments.
  • Excellent API and integration experience – REST APIs, API design, OpenAPI specifications, authentication and integration patterns.
  • Strong SQL and experience analysing complex relational data.
  • Experience migrating data from legacy/on-premise platforms into modern ERP or SAP environments.
  • Understanding of business-rule extraction and migration, rather than treating migration as simply moving data between databases.
  • Experience with API performance, monitoring, logging, observability and alerting.
  • Strong testing and reconciliation mindset, ensuring financial and billing data remains accurate throughout migration.

Highly Desirable

  • High-volume or high-throughput billing/payment environments.
  • API automation and automated testing.
  • Experience modernising legacy or mainframe-based insurance systems.

Profile
