Senior Data Modeller
Location: Yorkshire, United Kingdom Working Arrangement: Hybrid Employment Type: Permanent Sector: Analytics and Data / Retail, FMCG and Financial Services Salary: £90k to £100k + 10-12% bonus + benefits
The Opportunity
We are recruiting an experienced Senior Data Modeller / Data Architect on behalf of a leading global data and AI organisation.
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior data professional to play a key role in designing, developing and maintaining enterprise data models that support analytics, reporting, artificial intelligence, machine learning and business intelligence initiatives.
You will work across complex data environments, translating business requirements into scalable and high-quality data solutions while ensuring that data is structured, governed and optimised for performance.
Working closely with business and technical stakeholders, you will contribute to data architecture strategy, data governance, integration and the continuous improvement of enterprise data capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Modeller, your responsibilities will include:
- Translating business requirements into scalable data models that support business and technology objectives.
- Designing, developing and maintaining conceptual, logical and physical data models.
- Defining source-to-target mappings, data flows and business rules.
- Supporting the design and implementation of relational and NoSQL database solutions.
- Developing data models for data warehouses, data lakes, operational data stores and data marts.
- Developing and maintaining metadata, data dictionaries and supporting documentation.
- Optimising existing data models to improve performance, scalability, quality and reusability.
- Establishing and promoting data modelling standards, naming conventions and best practices.
- Identifying opportunities to reuse existing data models and data assets.
- Reverse engineering existing databases, applications and SQL scripts to produce accurate data models.
- Assessing logical and physical models for quality, integrity, performance and alignment with business requirements.
- Analysing data integration challenges and recommending scalable solutions.
- Providing technical guidance to Business Analysts, Developers, Data Engineers and Solution Architects.
- Reviewing application and database designs and recommending improvements.
- Supporting enterprise data architecture, data movement strategies and technology direction.
- Ensuring data architecture deliverables comply with relevant standards, policies and governance frameworks.
- Working collaboratively with project managers, business stakeholders, technical teams and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Supporting and mentoring less experienced members of the data team.

About You
We are looking for an experienced Data Modeller with a strong background in enterprise data modelling, data architecture and data integration. Previous experience working ideally for a consulting business or software house working on FTSE 100-250 business client projects.
You should have:
- 8+ years' experience in data architecture, data modelling or a similar discipline.
- 7–12 years' implementation experience using data modelling tools such as Erwin, ER/Studio, PowerDesigner or similar.
- Strong experience developing conceptual, logical and physical data models.
- Experience with dimensional modelling.
- Knowledge of ODS, Data Vault and other data architecture approaches.
- Strong SQL and database design skills.
- Experience with data profiling, analysis, data quality and source-to-target mapping.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing and OLTP environments.
- Experience with ETL, data integration and data transformation.
- Experience working across cloud and on-premise environments.
- Knowledge of modern cloud/data platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP, Snowflake and/or Databricks.
- Experience with major database and big data technologies.
- Strong understanding of data architecture principles, governance and enterprise data management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring, leading or managing data professionals.
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required, with a Master's degree being desirable.
