We have an exciting new opportunity for a Data Modeller to join Robert Walters as a Consultant. As an employed Consultant, you will benefit from permanent employment with Robert Walters and will be deployed on an interim or project basis into our clients' organisations, in return we will provide you with the opportunity to develop your skills with ongoing training and professional accreditations.
The successful candidate will be a seasoned Data Modeller who can provide project-level data modelling expertise across operational, integration, analytical and reporting use cases. The role will work with business analysts, product owners, data engineers, architects and governance teams to define data requirements, model data structures and ensure that implemented solutions conform to agreed modelling standards and enterprise data principles.
It requires practical experience of modern cloud data ecosystems, layered Bronze, Silver and Gold architectures, and the appropriate use of relational, dimensional and Data Vault modelling techniques.
Required qualifications and experience:
- At least five years of data modelling experience in large or complex organisations.
- Demonstrable experience creating conceptual, logical and physical data models.
- Strong practical understanding of relational modelling and third normal form (3NF).
- Practical dimensional modelling experience, including facts, dimensions, conformed dimensions, surrogate keys, slowly changing dimensions and clearly defined grain.
- Hands-on Data Vault 2.0 modelling experience, including raw vault and business vault patterns.
- Experience designing integrated and historised data structures that support multiple downstream consumers.
- Experience with metadata-driven or automated data modelling and delivery processes, with appropriate governance, validation and human approval controls.
- Experience producing physical models and implementation-ready specifications for cloud data platforms and data warehouse technologies.
- Working knowledge of SQL, data definition language, data types, XML and JSON.
- Ability to analyse source structures, profile available data, identify business keys and assess data quality or completeness issues.
- Experience with source-to-target mapping, data lineage and end-to-end data flow documentation.
- Ability to communicate modelling decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in an environment of changing requirements and delivery constraints.

Preferred knowledge:
- Insurance industry data, including policy, coverage, claim, party, broker and organisation concepts.
- Industry-standard information models and open data standards, particularly the ACORD Information Model and messaging standards.
- Databricks or a comparable modern cloud lake house platform.
- Data modelling tools such as erwin Data Modeler.
- Data governance, metadata management, master and reference data management, and enterprise data architecture.
- Python or similar scripting experience used to validate metadata, automate repeatable modelling tasks or generate controlled technical artefacts.
- Agile delivery and collaboration with distributed engineering, architecture and business teams.
