KierBAM are a Joint Venture (JV) partnership between Kier and Bam UK & Ireland – BAM UK & Ireland’s Infrastructure segment are currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Devonport, Plymouth and we are seeking a Data Modelling Analyst.
The Data Modelling Analyst is someone who wants to build on their existing experience to help build efficient and accurate cost and staff data streams for the 10-Dock project.
This will enable the Quantity Surveyors (QSs) to conclude if each project is being delivered within the agreed budget while meeting quality and time requirements.
Due to the sensitive nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required. Please note that this process can take up to 8 weeks.
Eligibility criteria: Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.

Location: Devonport Dockyard, Plymouth
Contract: Permanent, 42.5 hours a week
Making Possible
In this role, you will be working in a live MOD facility. Your regular responsibilities will include:
- Excellent data skills across Excel and Power Query/PowerBI and/or Python, SQL etc.
- The Commercial department has a huge amount of data from multiple sources, sometimes in an unstructured format.
- The primary objectives for this role are therefore to manipulate, to make more robust and to improve the efficiency of that data output for Quantity Surveyors, other members of the Commercial Team and management to use.
- Work with the commercial assistants to reduce the level of manual work required to produce the staff cost reports.
- Work with the Cost manager to improve the efficiency of the application for payment processes.
- Operate as cover for the commercial assistants for the white- and blue-collar cost reporting.
- Working as a team player with a positive mindset, receiving direction and guidance as required. Over time, there will be considerable interaction with members of the Commercial team, Procurement, Finance, the blue-collar workers and external parties.
- Building an appreciation of the importance of overall project timelines, deliverables, and integration of cost management within overall project controls.
- Whilst relevant industry knowledge is not expected upon starting the role, the most effective individuals and processes understand and considers how the industry operates including resources, methods, and regulations. Questions and ideas are very much encouraged.

What do you bring to the role?
Essential
- Advanced Power BI, Power Query (or equivalent) data modelling abilities that can leverage multiple excel and unstructured datasets.
- Highly evolved numerical, analytical, data analysis and critical thinking skills. Strong Excel skills will be essential. Examples include INDEX/MATCH, XLOOKUP, nested Ifs, TEXTBEFORE / AFTER, VSTACK.
- Attention to detail.
- A low ego, high ethics team player and taking ownership for the work assigned to you.
- Someone with the curiosity to ask the relevant questions, listen and offer ideas.
- Someone with a data science, programming, finance or quantity surveying degree or equivalent qualification.
- GCSE’s including Maths, English, IT (or technical subject) at grade 5+.
