Data Platform Engineer
As our next Data Platform Engineer you’ll provide technical data solutions to meet the wide-ranging needs of data-users across the business, from analysing data and user requirements, to design, build, and implement the running of a reliable and resilient data platform. You’ll join a likeminded team in our Leeds based Technology Services function.
You’ll need an inquisitive mind and be able to deliver data integrations between systems and think about how that data may be used downstream in analytical teams, or how it may impact our regulatory reporting team.
Working with our data products team you will deliver a platform that can support their data reporting requirements.
What You’ll Do
- Take responsibility for the design, development, test and implementation of solutions to integrate new and existing systems ensuring they adhere to development standards and meet requirements.
- Learn all about YBS data and how it used to service our customers to our best abilities but also how it’s used to run our business.
- Support those services in a live environment 24/7, on a callout basis.
- Collaborate with Data Architects, Data Design Analysts, Data Product Engineers and Product Owners to perform impact analysis on requirements and designs.
- Work closely with the business and Project Manager / Owners to define scope, timescales, and quality metrics to deliver data products across YBS identifying where products can be reused to speed up delivery of data driven decisions.
- Support development of the capability and capacity of team and/or service resources to drive sustained commercial success.
- Contribute to good housekeeping practices for the maintenance of data including de-commissioning unused data products.
- Participate in and lead peer reviews of documentation, code, unit and integration testing.
- Report on the progress of work allocated, in the manner required for that delivery, which can be waterfall or agile.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
