Role Description

The Data / Platform Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Northampton. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines and platform services that support business applications and analytics. The engineer will manage and optimize databases, implement monitoring and alerting, and troubleshoot issues across infrastructure and application layers.

  • Developing and deploying software components
  • Writing clean and efficient code
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand data and platform requirements
  • Ensuring systems are secure, scalable, and reliable
  • Documenting solutions
  • Contributing to technical standards
  • Participating in performance tuning and capacity planning

Qualifications

  • Strong programming and software development skills, with experience in building and integrating services and tools
  • Solid infrastructure skills, including working with servers, networks, cloud or on-prem platforms, and system monitoring
  • Hands-on experience with databases, including design, optimization, querying, and data integration
  • Troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve issues across applications, data pipelines, and infrastructure
  • Experience with data engineering tools, scripting languages, and version control systems (e.g., Git) is beneficial
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and a focus on system reliability and performance
  • Ability to work on-site in Northampton, collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and communicate clearly in written and spoken English
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience is preferred
