Data Product Manager (12 month FTC) JD

Great Portland Estates (GPE) is a highly respected central London property investment and development company quoted on the London Stock Exchange. The Company, which employs around 160 people, owns around £2.9 billion of real estate – primarily commercial but also retail; and a small amount of residential - 100% in central London with a rent roll of approx. £100 million per annum. The business focuses on acquiring, managing and repositioning properties – to unlock their full potential and value.

This approach, combined with successful reading of the real estate market, continues to deliver outstanding performance for shareholders and makes for a dynamic environment in which to work.

Job Requirements

We are looking for a 12-month fixed-term contract Data Product Manager to lead the strategy, architecture, and delivery of GPE’s Data Platforms, with associated architecture and products. Act as the senior owner for product direction, enterprise architecture, reporting, platform cost optimisation, and high-quality delivery through both internal teams and through the use of on and offshore third-party partners. Drive business value through scalable solutions, reliable automations, and strong user adoption.

Job responsibilities, skills, and experience

Product Strategy & Enterprise Architecture

  • Provide enterprise-level architectural leadership for all cloud data platforms and products, ensuring scalability, consistent standards, and alignment with GPE’s technology landscape and roadmap
  • Own the long-term vision and roadmap for all data-based solutions, aligning to GPE’s strategic goals
  • Ownership of all data-related workstreams in GPE projects, including enterprise-level projects and implementations
  • Use Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) principles to improve and replace products and platforms as the software landscape and GPE’s requirements evolve

  • Work with senior stakeholders across the business to translate business needs and problem statements into clear, actionable technological solutions
  • Oversee multi-environment ALM, ensuring solution integrity, robust security, and timely delivery
  • Lead a third-party team of developers, utilising scrum masters, testers, BAs, and architects to set quality expectations and ensure timely, reliable delivery
  • Own the migration of GPE’s data platform to Microsoft Fabric.

Platform Ownership, Cost Management & Optimisation

  • Ownership of GPE’s enterprise data architecture and platforms in Azure, along with all related end-to-end processing including:
    • ETL infrastructure
    • Cross platform integration
    • CI/CD processes in Azure DevOps using YAML deployments
    • Data storage and archival
    • Access and security
  • Ownership of GPE’s Power BI reporting platform across all teams and business areas
  • Analyse usage and adoption patterns to inform budget forecasting and cost management, and to manage platform scaling and optimisation.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Produce clear, professional communications and senior-level presentations for stakeholders across the business
  • Act as an expert across the business on GPE data, its associated platforms, and products.

Data Governance Strategy Ownership

  • Ownership of the creation, implementation, and management of GPE’s data governance framework
  • Define data domains with associated parties across the business according to a RACI framework
  • Work with senior stakeholders across the business to define data quality criteria.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Senior-level product management across data platforms
  • Proven leadership of offshore delivery partners
  • Product Roadmap creation, prioritisation, and implementation
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, and experience working with senior stakeholders
  • Experience of both Agile and Waterfall project management using Azure DevOps or equivalent technologies
  • Experience in operational monitoring, and platform cost management and optimisation.
  • Strong enterprise architecture capability across cloud-based data products, solutions, and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM)
  • Strong knowledge of financial systems and reporting.
  • Property industry experience, particularly with respect to financial products
  • Advanced technical capabilities in Power BI and SQL
  • Strong technical knowledge of the Azure cloud platform or equivalent technologies
  • Experience designing infrastructure, taking data from multiple platforms to create a single unified solution.
