We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to take on the role of Data Protection Advisor, working within the Information Assurance team.
Policing holds vast amounts of data for law enforcement and operational purposes, but how that data is used and secured requires rigorous governance to ensure its retention and use is lawful, fair and proportionate and does not infringe on the rights and freedoms of individuals. In order to meet the organisation’s strategic ambitions for the use of data, we have an Information Assurance function with responsibility for information governance, security, records management and data protection.
The role will provide professional guidance and specialist advice with regard to data protection compliance, ensuring that appropriate controls are identified and implemented to protect personal data and ensure the force is compliant with UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. You will also advise on and manage information security incidents and related governance and assurance documentation and reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Acting as the designated specialist for data protection, providing expert advice to the Force on all aspects of data protection compliance
- To assist departments with completing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new and changed uses of processing data
- To investigate actual and suspected data breaches
- To undertake data flow mapping exercises and maintain the Force Information Asset Register (IAR)

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
