Data Protection Manager Opportunity in Cheshire
We are currently working in partnership with a public sector organisation based in Cheshire, who are recruiting for a Data Protection Manager to join the team on a permanent basis.
The role offers a salary of £48,000 - £53,000 per annum, and hybrid working (3 days per week in the office, 2 days per week working from home).
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing subject matter expert advice and guidance in all matters in relation to the management of information whilst overseeing and monitoring information standards and where possible introducing best practice.
Key Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Providing expert advice on data protection, information governance, records management and information security, ensuring compliance with GDPR and relevant legislation
- Leading data protection compliance, acting as the key point of contact between the organisation, data subjects and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
- Managing information rights and requests, including Subject Access Requests, Freedom of Information requests, complex information requests and appropriate application of exemptions
- Developing and overseeing policies, procedures and governance frameworks for information management, including records retention, disposal, DPIAs, Records of Processing Activities and information sharing agreements
- Identifying, assessing and mitigating information risks, working closely with the Senior Information Risk Officer (SIRO), IT and service areas to ensure appropriate controls and secure handling of information
- Leading and promoting information compliance across the organisation, providing training, monitoring legislative changes, supporting M365/Purview governance and representing the service at regional and national forums

Experience Required
- Experience in a similar role managing information governance, GDPR/data protection and Freedom of Information requirements
- Managing individual rights requests and supporting data breach investigations
- Developing and delivering information governance and data protection training and awareness materials
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Required
- Strong working knowledge of UK Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation and Information Commissioner’s Office guidance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and able to manage and prioritise own workload
- Strong decision-making skills, utilising data and insight effectively
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines
