Job Description
Overview of SID
SID is part of the Service Transformation Group. The Group oversees the building of a strategic vision for modernising and digitising our legacy systems, generating a coordinated plan across the MoJ and its agencies for transformation, and tracking delivery of this transformation.
Security and information management are fundamental building blocks of enabling the department to deliver. We have highly skilled experts working collaboratively with the department, Government Security Group and other partners to enable the whole of the MoJ to function securely, lawfully and transparently.
We identify, manage, and mitigate MoJ’s security, data protection and information risks, and provide assurance against those risks. We’re also home to the Counter Fraud Centre of Expertise. Part of our mission is to up-skill the department so that security becomes second nature to our people and partners
Team Profile
The remit of the Data Protection Team covers Headquarters, the five Executive Agencies and 12 Arm’s Length Bodies
Their Work Includes:
- Monitoring and overseeing compliance with data protection legislation and MoJ personal data policies
- Advising on Data Protection Impact Assessments
- Acting as the point of contact with the Information Commissioner’s Office
- Receiving requests from data subjects who wish to exercise their rights to - access, restrict, rectify or erase - their personal data
Summary
The Role
Reporting to the Deputy Data Protection Officer you will be responsible for the management of finances, people, engagement, portfolio, contract management and the effective operational running of the Data Protection Team. You will manage the Data Protection Team Coordinators and lead the delivery of defined projects that contribute to the ongoing transformation of DPT operations. You will also support the management and oversight of the ICO Concerns process, ensuring that potential risks to statutory compliance are identified, escalated, and addressed in a timely manner.
Responsibilities, Activities And Duties
The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities, and duties:
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Supporting the work of the Data Protection Team in order to deliver the data protection strategy, prioritising complex issues
- Responding to ad hoc requests for information, including Freedom of Information (FOI), Cabinet Committee correspondence and Parliamentary Questions
- Developing accurate insights and recommendations on a broad range of topics
- Supporting business planning and reporting and audit management as required
- Contributing and to commissions from within the business and cross-government
- Managing space moves and re-organisations as required
- Shaping and delivering ad hoc projects to improve the DPT operations
- Day-to-day management of the DPT mailboxes and the data protection compliance tool, OneTrust
- Line management responsibilities of Data Protection Team Coordinators
Person Specification
Essential
- Working in a Deputy Director or Director level office, or data protection team in a government department or other large, high-profile organisation
- Experience in managing teams, coordinating workloads, and supporting colleagues to meet shared goals
- Strong analytical skills and report development
- Engaging with risk and audit functions in a complex organisation
- Shaping and delivering projects
- Building relationships easily with people at different levels of an organisation
- Demonstrating capability to manage and coordinate the work of information security or assurance specialists, including the ability to realign resources and workflows in response to shifting organisational priorities.
- Proven ability to plan, organise, and deliver work efficiently and at pace, ensuring operational outputs and deadlines are consistently met.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical and regulatory information clearly to a range of stakeholders.
