Investment Team · YOU Asset Management
About us
YOU Asset Management is a £6.5bn+ multi-asset investment manager. We are the in-house specialist investment arm of Finli, a fast-growing Financial Planning business with offices all over the UK. We have run our flagship Multi-Asset Blend fund range since 2019, and a model portfolio service since 2004. We build portfolios across Equities, Fixed Income, Absolute Return and Real Assets for a range of client risk profiles.
Our approach combines disciplined human judgement with a proprietary quantitative framework built from first principles, spanning analysis, asset allocation, risk management, performance attribution and trade execution. We are a small, collaborative team in which every member is given real responsibility early and is expected to contribute their own views.
The role
First and foremost we are looking for someone who cares whether the numbers are right. Every decision the investment team takes, and everything we report to clients, rests on data that has been assembled, checked and presented clearly. We want someone who takes ownership of that, who is not afraid to challenge what they are given and who expects to be challenged in turn.
The role sits within the Investment Team and involves working with the data, reporting and trade-support infrastructure that underpins how we run money. In the first year, the focus will be on taking ownership of the team’s core monthly and weekly reporting cycle. Over time, the successful candidate will shape how that infrastructure is built, automated and extended.
Your initial focus
You will learn how we run money from the inside by producing the material the team runs it with. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Investment Committee (IAAC) pack. Compiling the monthly committee pack: market returns, valuations and macro indicators, asset allocation positioning, portfolio performance and risk, attribution and deviation monitoring, manager performance, drift, concentration and liquidity reporting, AUM and trading reports. Taking the minutes and drafting the record of actions and decisions
- Monthly factsheets. Producing and checking the monthly factsheets for the Multi-Asset Blend funds and model portfolio ranges
- Trading support. Calculating trades and rebalances, preparing dealing instructions, and reconciling executed trades and post-trade positions
- Ad hoc reporting and analysis. Responding to requests from the investment team, the wider business and clients, from performance queries to bespoke analysis
- AI utilisation and automation. Identifying where the reporting cycle is slow, fragile or manual, and fixing it, using AI tools such as Claude alongside conventional automation to remove manual work and raise the quality of what we produce

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

As you develop
As you gain command of the reporting cycle, your focus will shift from producing outputs to owning and improving the infrastructure behind them:
- Quantitative framework. Helping to build, maintain and extend the team’s analytical, risk, attribution and trading tools
- Data infrastructure. Designing the data pipelines that feed our reporting, so that outputs are reproducible and reconciled by construction rather than by hand
- Trading and execution analysis. Deepening our trading cost analysis and best execution monitoring
- Team development. Documenting processes and helping analysts across the team get the most out of the tools
Who we are looking for
We value how a candidate thinks, and how they work with others, above any particular background. Character and attitude matter to us as much as technical ability, and the following qualities matter most:
- Rigour and attention to detail. Meticulous in checking your own work, constructive in reviewing others’, and healthily sceptical of any number until you understand where it came from
- Ownership and reliability. The reporting cycle has hard deadlines. Committee packs, factsheets and trade instructions have to be right and on time, every month
- A problem-solving instinct. Inclined to fix a broken process rather than work around it, and to propose solutions rather than simply highlight problems
- Independent, evidence-led thinking. Comfortable telling a fund manager that a figure is wrong, and able to explain why
- Intellectual honesty. Willing to flag your own errors quickly, and to change your approach when the evidence changes
- Clear reasoning and communication. Able to capture a committee debate faithfully in minutes, and to present data so that a fund manager, a compliance officer or a financial adviser can read it without further explanation
- Curiosity and range. A genuine interest in markets and in how a multi-asset portfolio is put together
- Collaboration. Generous with what you know, open to feedback, and invested in the success of the team as a whole, not only your own work
