About Newsflare
Newsflare is a leading user-generated video marketplace, helping creators monetise their content while supplying video to publishers, broadcasters, brands, and digital platforms worldwide. As demand for high-quality AI training data accelerates, we're uniquely positioned to transform our extensive video library into valuable datasets, metadata and insights for AI companies. We're looking for a Data Science & Analytics Lead to help us get more value from our data, improve our analytics and reporting, and develop practical data solutions that support the business.
๐ฏ The Role
In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day development and delivery of Newsflare's data, analytics and reporting capability. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working with data, solving business problems and building analytical solutions. You'll work with teams across Newsflare to understand their questions, analyse data and turn your findings into clear, useful insights. The role will suit an experienced Data Analyst, Data Scientist or Analytics Lead who is ready to take greater ownership and step into a lead role, stand-alone role.
๐ Key Responsibilities
Data & Analytics
- Develop analytical solutions to answer commercial, operational and business questions.
- Work directly with stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into practical analytical solutions.
- Analyse large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, opportunities and issues.
- Use statistical and mathematical techniques to investigate business problems and support decision-making.
- Develop predictive models, algorithms and machine learning solutions where appropriate.
- Use R for statistical analysis, modelling and data science.
- Use Python to develop scripts, automate processes and deploy analytical solutions.
- Challenge assumptions and investigate the underlying drivers behind business performance.
Reporting & Visualisation
- Develop and maintain Tableau dashboards and reporting for teams across the business.
- Improve existing reports and identify opportunities to make reporting more useful and efficient.
- Develop clear and effective visualisations to communicate key findings.
- Ensure reporting is accurate, consistent and based on trusted data.
- Help stakeholders understand what the data is telling them and how they can use it.

Data Engineering & Infrastructure
- Develop and maintain data pipelines using Matillion.
- Work with Snowflake to structure, transform and manage analytical data.
- Improve the quality, consistency and accessibility of data within the existing data environment.
- Develop appropriate data models, schemas and transformations to support analytics and reporting.
- Identify data quality issues and work with Technology to resolve them.
- Automate repetitive data and reporting processes where appropriate.
- Work with the Technology team where changes to underlying systems or data sources are required.
Business Support
- Work closely with Commercial, Finance, Operations, Marketing and Technology teams to solve data-related problems.
- Respond to emerging business questions and develop appropriate analytical solutions.
- Identify opportunities to use existing data to improve performance, efficiency and revenue.
- Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Build confidence and trust in data across the business.
- Share knowledge and help develop data and analytical capability within Newsflare.

Within your first 12 months, you will have:
- Improved the quality and reliability of Newsflare's data and reporting.
- Delivered new analytical solutions that answer important business questions.
- Improved and expanded our Tableau reporting.
- Developed more automated and efficient data processes using Matillion and Python.
- Made better use of the data already available within Snowflake.
- Identified meaningful trends, opportunities and insights through analysis.
- Introduced more sophisticated statistical or predictive analysis where it adds value.
๐ What We're Looking For
Essential
- Proven experience in data analytics, data science, statistics, business intelligence or a related discipline.
- Strong experience using data to answer business questions and generate actionable insights.
- Strong statistical and analytical skills.
- Advanced experience with R or a similar statistical programming language.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with data warehouses.
- Experience developing dashboards and reporting, ideally using Tableau.
- Experience using Python for scripting, automation or deployment.
- Experience working with large and complex datasets.
- Ability to communicate analytical findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- A practical, curious and commercially-minded approach to problem-solving.

Desirable
- Experience with machine learning and predictive modelling.
- Experience with Snowflake.
- Experience working with ETL/data integration tools, ideally Matillion.
- Experience with cloud data platforms and modern data stacks
- Experience working with large-scale video, image or other unstructured datasets.
- Experience in a technology, media, marketplace or start-up environment.
- A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or another quantitative discipline.

We're looking for someone who enjoys doing, not just advising. You should be comfortable taking a business question, finding the relevant data, carrying out the analysis, building the reporting or model and explaining the answer to the people who need it. You'll be naturally curious and analytical, with the confidence to question data, challenge assumptions and investigate problems. You'll also be comfortable working independently, prioritising competing requests and finding pragmatic solutions. This is a great opportunity for a seasoned Data Analyst or Data Scientist ready to take the opportunity to become the go-to data and analytics specialist within a fast-paced start-up.
