We are seeking talented data science, machine learning and AI practitioners to join our multidisciplinary team, with a focus on clients in the Defence and Security sector.

You will work on complex, mission-focused problems where data, AI and technology can help clients make better decisions, improve operational outcomes and deliver lasting impact. The work is varied: you may be exploring new techniques, building prototypes, developing production-ready solutions, shaping client strategy, or helping teams understand how AI can be applied safely and effectively in sensitive environments.

As a practitioner in our team, you will:

  • Apply data science, machine learning and AI techniques to solve complex client problems.
  • Research, prototype and develop innovative solutions that deliver real-world impact.
  • Work across the lifecycle, from understanding user needs and exploring data through to building, evaluating, scaling and managing AI-enabled services.
  • Help implement new techniques and technologies, including generative AI and agentic AI patterns where appropriate.
  • Produce high-quality technical output, analysis, reports and presentations.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, designers, delivery leads, analysts and client stakeholders.
  • Shape new propositions and support the development of future client opportunities.
  • Contribute to team learning, mentoring and practice development.
  • Build a deep understanding of the Defence and Security sector, including the operational, ethical, security and delivery considerations that shape successful AI solutions.

Essential:

  • Hands-on experience applying data science, machine learning or AI techniques in Defence and Security, the wider public sector, industry or academia.
  • Practical experience using Python or equivalent tools to analyse data, develop models or build AI-enabled solutions.
  • Understanding of common data science and machine learning approaches, such as statistical modelling, supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, transformers, generative AI and agentic AI patterns.
  • Ability to assess the suitability, limitations and risks of different AI/ML techniques for real client use cases.
  • Experience working across at least part of the data science or machine learning lifecycle, from exploration and prototyping through to evaluation, deployment or operational use.
  • Strong communication skills, including preparing clear reports and presentations and explaining complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with colleagues, clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Evidence of contribution beyond individual delivery, such as mentoring, practice development, proposition development or supporting bids.

We do not expect candidates to have experience across all the areas below, but we are particularly interested in people who can bring in one or more of them:

  • Applying AI/ML techniques to text, audio, imagery, video, geospatial, graph or multimodal data.
  • Developing solutions using machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn or Hugging Face.
  • Using cloud-based data science and machine learning services across AWS, Azure, GCP or equivalent platforms.
  • Developing high-quality, maintainable code and working with software engineering practices such as version control, testing, code review and CI/CD.
  • Working with MLOps or workflow tools such as MLflow, Kubeflow, Argo or equivalent frameworks.
  • Scaling models or analytical services for enterprise or operational use.
  • Applying statistical methods, model evaluation techniques and uncertainty analysis.
  • Understanding responsible AI, including fairness, explainability, transparency, robustness, privacy, security and human oversight.
  • Working in secure, sensitive or mission-critical environments.
