Litmas AI builds cutting-edge AI systems for litigation. Our platform helps legal teams understand complex cases, evaluate risk, surface key evidence, and produce high-quality legal work. We support high-stakes disputes across insurance defence, personal injury, commercial litigation, and debt collection. Our technology combines large language models with structured legal knowledge and real-world workflow design.

About the Role

We are looking for a Data Science Intern to join our team in London. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of data engineering, machine learning, and applied AI research. You will work directly on the systems that power Litmas AI, from data pipelines through to LLM evaluation frameworks. Minimum internship duration is three months, with the expectation of at least three days per week in our London office.

What You Will Do

  • Manage data extraction, cleaning, ingestion, and classification pipelines
  • Build and maintain topological network and graph-based master data structures
  • Build case-law retrieval evaluation harnesses across industry benchmarks
  • Run LLM and agent evaluations and contribute to continuous improvement pipelines
  • Contribute to the product roadmap and participate in customer feedback sessions
  • Collaborate with team members on live research problems

Requirements

  • Recent graduate or currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or another STEM field
  • Experience with PostgreSQL in large-scale data pipelines
  • Strong knowledge of Python; familiarity with other programming languages is a plus
  • Ability to work a minimum of three days per week from our London office
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, start-up environment with ambiguous problem definitions

Nice to Have

  • Experience with graph databases or network analysis (e.g. Neo4j, NetworkX)
  • Experience with ETL pipelines and vector databases in retrieval frameworks
  • Practical experience with embedding models for retrieval
  • Familiarity with transformers, retrieval augmented generation, or LLM evaluation
  • Exposure to legal tech, healthcare, or other domains where accuracy and auditability are critical
  • Prior experience in a startup or research lab environment
