Hybrid 3 days a week together out of our London, Birmingham, Ipswich or Belfast offices (flexible 2 days remote wherever).

About The Role

At BT, data is at the heart of how we build, operate and evolve one of the UK's largest and most critical digital infrastructures. Our Networks Data & AI team transforms vast volumes of network data into insights, products and solutions that improve customer experience, drive operational efficiency and help shape the future of connectivity.

We're looking for a Data Science Manager who can combine technical excellence with inspirational people leadership. You'll lead a team of talented data scientists and analysts while remaining close enough to the work to guide the design and delivery of innovative machine learning and AI solutions.

This is an opportunity to work on large-scale, high-impact challenges where your solutions can influence decisions across BT and create measurable business value. From improving network performance to reducing operational costs, you'll help solve complex problems that affect millions of customers every day.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading and developing a team of data scientists and analysts, creating an inclusive and high-performing environment where people can thrive.
  • Translating complex business challenges into practical data science solutions using machine learning, AI and advanced statistical techniques.
  • Designing, building and deploying scalable data products that support strategic decision-making across Networks and BT Group.
  • Working with large-scale network datasets to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, performance and customer outcomes.
  • Collaborating with engineering, architecture, product and business stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Communicating complex technical findings through compelling data storytelling, visualisation and clear recommendations.
  • Driving innovation and helping shape the future direction of Data Science and AI within BT Networks.

Essential Skills / Experience

To be successful in this role, you must be able to demonstrate all three of the following:

  • Proven experience applying machine learning, AI and statistical techniques to solve complex, real-world business problems, with the ability to take a challenge from problem definition through to implementation and measurable outcomes.
  • Hands-on expertise in Python and modern data science techniques, supported by a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics and analytics. You must be comfortable working with large-scale datasets and developing data-driven solutions.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing technical teams, with the ability to create high-performing environments, manage challenging situations and support colleagues to grow and succeed.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience working within large, complex or regulated organisations.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications, networking, broadband, voice, TV or related infrastructure domains.
  • Experience deploying and operationalising machine learning solutions in cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including influencing senior audiences and translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience driving data-driven transformation or establishing new AI and analytics capabilities within an organisation.
